Easy to Love
Sarah Vaughan Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I know too well that I'm just wasting precious time
In thinking such a thing could be
That you could ever care for me
I'm sure you hate to hear

That I adore you, dear
But grant me
Just the same
I'm not entirely to blame

For love
You'd be so easy to love
So easy to idolize
All others above

So worth the yearning for
So swell to keep every home fire burning for
We'd be so grand at the game
So carefree together

That it does seem a shame
That you can't see

Your future with me
'Cause you'd be oh, so easy to love

Overall Meaning

In Sarah Vaughan's song Easy to Love, the singer admits to herself that she is wasting precious time by thinking that the person she loves could ever return her affections. She recognizes that she is probably deluding herself by thinking that they could ever care for her. Despite this, she adores the person and wishes to be close to them. She understands that they would be so easy to love and idolize and that they are worth the yearning for. The song's lyrics portray the singer's sadness and longing, knowing that the person she loves will likely never reciprocate her feelings.

The song is a lament of unrequited love, and the lyrics resonate with many people. The singer's vulnerability and honesty are touching, and the song's melody complements the lyrics perfectly. Sarah Vaughan's stunning vocal performance adds depth to the song and elevates it from a simple love song to a powerful expression of heartbreak.

Eartha Kitt does this -as a burned out lounge-singer- in a 1966 episode of I SPY, and her version is so heart-rending that puts everyone else's (including BH's) to shame. If you doubt this, check it out... there's a clip here on YT.

Nah. It's two complete different interpretations. Eartha K. It's way more orchestral and big band. Hiw can you compare that to only a guitar and bass, which merely serve in a more harmonic sense.
I get that you may like it better, but it's no better than this, considering the protagonism and performance of Sarah's voice in this whole song.

jenom tak si zpívat, jenom tak si kráčet světem, jenom tak si nechat čechrat vlasy vánkem, jenom tak se nechat ovívat slunečními vlasy, jooo, jenom tak si zpívat, jenom tak svobodná být....1*!
