And you held me
And I wanted you more
Than anytime before
We were breaking up
And when you touched me
It felt just like the first time
You've been my adventure
You've been my excuse
You've been my religion
You've been my abuse
You've been my adventure
You've been my excuse
You've been my religion
And now I'm letting you lose
I'm letting you loose
In Sasha Siem's song "Valentine," the lyrics portray the complex emotions and experiences that come with the end of a relationship. The song begins with the acknowledgment that the couple is breaking up, yet despite this, there is a deep connection that still lingers. When the person holds the singer, they feel a strong desire for them, perhaps even more intensely than ever before. Despite the pain of separation, there is still a sense of longing and vulnerability.
As the song progresses, the lyrics reveal the contradictory nature of the relationship. The person the singer is addressing has been both their adventure and their excuse, offering both excitement and a means to escape from something. They have also served as a source of faith or belief, becoming almost like a religion to the singer, but at the same time, there has been abuse within the relationship. The singer recognizes the toxic aspects of the connection and decides to let go, to release the person from their grip.
Overall, "Valentine" delves into the complexities of a faltering relationship, where love and desire often coexist with pain and toxicity. The lyrics capture the conflicted emotions experienced when trying to let go of someone who has played multiple roles in one's life.
