Say Hi To Your Mom (presently Say Hi) is a Seattle-based, indie-pop/lo-fi rock group. Formed by Eric Elbogen in Brooklyn 2002, Say Hi's albums are mostly recorded at Elbogen's home, with him playing a majority of the instruments and providing vocals.
On tour, friends accompany Elbogen as his backing band.
Their fourth release, Impeccable Blahs, was written almost entirely about vampires, though Star Trek is also mentioned. The song "Angels and Darlas" is a reference to Angel and Darla from the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spinoff Angel both created by Joss Whedon.
With the release of their fifth album The Wishes and the Glitch, the band shortened their name to "Say Hi".This was done because the earlier name reflected an aesthetic that no longer matched the band's tastes.
Elbogen's lyrics are noted as being one of the band's strengths.

And everything was two dimensional.
But somehow you were the third coordinate
And you were towering over our college rule.
Would you draw me with your pencils and your pens,
Make me much prettier than I really am?
And could you draw us with some picture perfect friends if I chipped in for the ink?
Let's say you spilled all your coffee
And all our world was stained, awake, and drowned.
And all your doodling looked pretty foul.
Would you draw me air bubbles so I could breathe?
Or at least some chlorophyll making trees?
If I got erased would you even still love me?
Or would you just draw yourself another he?
The lyrics of "Dimensions And Verticals" by Say Hi To Your Mom present a fictional scenario where the world is a two-dimensional universe, but the singer exists as a three-dimensional entity. The song is addressed to someone who is skilled at drawing, and the singer wonders if this person could make them look better than they really are, and if they could draw some perfect friends to surround them if they contributed ink.
The lyrics go on to describe a situation where the person drawing spills coffee on everything, causing a chaotic and messy turn of events. The singer wonders if this artist would be able to draw them air bubbles so they could survive, or even some chlorophyll to create oxygen, alluding to the idea that the artist holds a great deal of power in this fictional world. Finally, the singer questions the loyalty of this person, asking whether or not they would still love them if they were erased or replaced.
Overall, the lyrics of "Dimensions And Verticals" are whimsical and imaginative, painting a picture of a surreal world where anything is possible. The song encourages the listener to dream big and embrace their own creativity, while also questioning the nature of relationships and what it means to truly love someone.
