They released an EP After Dark (2003), and two studio albums The City Sleeps in Flames (2005) and Scary Kids Scaring Kids (2007) with the late member and lead vocalist Tyson Stevens. The band disbanded following a farewell tour in 2010.
Vocalist Tyson Stevens was found dead from a suspected heroin overdose on the morning of October 20, 2014 at the age of 29. On September 29, 2019, Scary Kids Scaring Kids released a song titled "Loved Forever" to honour what would have been a wish of Stevens's 34th birthday. The song was written by rhythm guitarist Chad Crawford and produced by Hiram Hernandez.
On November 18, 2019, members Crawford, Afkary and Costa announced that Scary Kids Scaring Kids would be reuniting for one more time for the 15 year anniversary tour of The City Sleeps in Flames release alongside touring members featuring ex-Saosin and Dead American frontman Cove Reber on vocals, Don Vedda on lead guitar and Jordan Flower on bass.
The band released a new album, "Out For Light" May 27, 2022, featuring different lead vocalists on each track, including Lil Lotus, Mod Sun, Spencer Chamberlain of Underoath, among others.
The band – which originally was composed of Tyson Stevens on bass guitar and lead vocals (later to be strictly the vocalist/song writer), guitarists Chad Crawford, DJ Wilson (later to switch to bass) and Steve Kirby, Pouyan Afkary on keyboards, and drummer Peter Costa – recorded their self-financed debut EP, After Dark, while they were still in high school.
Their debut album, The City Sleeps in Flames, was released on Immortal Records in 2005.
A self-titled second album was released on 28th November 2007.
Set Sail
Scary Kids Scaring Kids Lyrics

I take a good look at my life
Only to find that I'm not living
I'm not alive
I wanna live to tell the tale
I wanna wake up before my ship sets sail
Don't wanna try to be anyone else
We all go, life could end in an instant
We all just disappear
So let me put this into perspective
Let me make this clear
I wanna live to tell the tale
I wanna wake up before my ship sets sail
Don't wanna try to be anyone else
I just wanna try to find myself
I've grown tired of the same old fucking story
I think I'm ready for a change
If there's a higher power up there watching over me
Could you give me a sign today, today?
'Cause I've grown tired, I've grown tired
I think I'm ready for a change
I wanna live to tell the tale
I wanna wake up before my ship sets sail
Don't wanna try to be anyone else
I wanna find myself, I wanna find my self
I wanna wake up
(I wanna find myself)
I just wanna wake up
(I wanna find myself)
The lyrics to Scary Kids Scaring Kids' "Set Sail" deal with the themes of self-reflection, personal growth, and mortality. The song starts with the singer looking at their life through "a stranger's eyes" and realizing they're not truly living, but merely existing without purpose or direction. The chorus echoes the sentiment, with the singer expressing a desire to "live to tell the tale" and find themselves before their time runs out.
As the song progresses, the singer acknowledges the inevitability of death and encourages listeners to keep their own mortality in perspective. They want to break free from the monotony of their life and value the time they have left, symbolized by the metaphor of their ship setting sail. The final plea to a "higher power" asks for a sign to facilitate this change in direction.
Overall, "Set Sail" is an introspective call to action, encouraging listeners to examine their lives, find their own meaning and purpose, and make the most of the time they have left.

This is quite possibly the saddest song too listen to after Tyson's passing..
He sounds so optimistic here.. he really wanted to change..
His demons eventually killed him..
RIP.

Why do such good bands break up? Tension breeds great music, that is why. Breaking Ben and these guys made great music out of tension
