They released an EP After Dark (2003), and two studio albums The City Sleeps in Flames (2005) and Scary Kids Scaring Kids (2007) with the late member and lead vocalist Tyson Stevens. The band disbanded following a farewell tour in 2010.
Vocalist Tyson Stevens was found dead from a suspected heroin overdose on the morning of October 20, 2014 at the age of 29. On September 29, 2019, Scary Kids Scaring Kids released a song titled "Loved Forever" to honour what would have been a wish of Stevens's 34th birthday. The song was written by rhythm guitarist Chad Crawford and produced by Hiram Hernandez.
On November 18, 2019, members Crawford, Afkary and Costa announced that Scary Kids Scaring Kids would be reuniting for one more time for the 15 year anniversary tour of The City Sleeps in Flames release alongside touring members featuring ex-Saosin and Dead American frontman Cove Reber on vocals, Don Vedda on lead guitar and Jordan Flower on bass.
The band released a new album, "Out For Light" May 27, 2022, featuring different lead vocalists on each track, including Lil Lotus, Mod Sun, Spencer Chamberlain of Underoath, among others.
The band – which originally was composed of Tyson Stevens on bass guitar and lead vocals (later to be strictly the vocalist/song writer), guitarists Chad Crawford, DJ Wilson (later to switch to bass) and Steve Kirby, Pouyan Afkary on keyboards, and drummer Peter Costa – recorded their self-financed debut EP, After Dark, while they were still in high school.
Their debut album, The City Sleeps in Flames, was released on Immortal Records in 2005.
A self-titled second album was released on 28th November 2007.

Scary Kids Scaring Kids Lyrics

I never thought I'd be alone. Well look at me now.
Sleepless nights, painful goodbyes.
Who the hell was I kidding?
The room starts to spin,
All alone and bleeding once again.
Can you help me make this.. make this fucking end?
[Chorus]
Oh my god there must be something,
Something to take the pain away.
And so there's nothing you can give me.
It's probably better off that way.
Just forget, all I ever wanted was to forget.
Bloodshot eyes and a starless sky.
Who the hell are we kidding?
You look so content, I guess the bright side hasn't found me yet.
Pull me out so I can catch my breath.
[Chorus]
I live my life in the shadows of the things I try to hide.
[Chorus]
The lyrics to Scary Kids Scaring Kids' song "The Only Medicine" gives a clear message about the pain and the agony one goes through in their life. The opening lines "I wash it down, just to block out all the sound," indicates the singer's attempt to shut themselves from the world and their problems. They never thought that they would be alone, but now they are, and they try to escape that by indulging in things like drinking.
The next lines, "Sleepless nights, painful goodbyes" indicate the singer's distress and troubling thoughts that cause their insomnia and the pain caused by saying goodbye. The line "Who the hell was I kidding?" shows that the singer realizes that they were in denial about the reality of things. The room starts to spin, symbolizing their confusion and disorientation; they are alone and bleeding once again. "Can you help me make this.. make this fucking end?" reveals their desperation and suicidal tendencies, suggesting that they would do anything to end their suffering.
The chorus of the song amplifies this message, as the singer is looking for something, anything that could take away their pain. They are pleading with anyone who could help them make it stop, suggesting that they see no hope in their situation. The lines "Just forget, all I ever wanted was to forget" illustrate that the singer wants to eradicate all the pain and the thoughts that cause it. They describe their eyes as bloodshot, indicating that they have been through a lot of crying and the starless sky symbolizes the darkness they see in their life. The final lines, "You look so content, I guess the bright side hasn't found me yet. Pull me out so I can catch my breath" again reveal their desire for someone to help them escape from their misery and find the bright side in life.
