14 Days
Science For Girls Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

gotta be 14th street
corner of 7th ave
funny cry happy gift is always open

gotta be 14 days
why never more or less
this is when the phone rings
and even the stars are alive
even the stars at night
even a star like you
can be looking for something

you've got a light like mine
even a light like mine
never a night goes by
i know what you like

never a dull moment
life is a game of chance
wrinkly and inconvenient

99 cents a shirt
we'll get the wrinkles out
just take a look at our dog

and even the stars are alive
even the stars at night
even a star like you
can be looking for something

you've got a light like mine
even a light like mine
never a night goes by
i know what you like

i don't know what to wish for
i don't know how to carry on
i never know what to say
to a gray
september rainy day
except go away

didn't it used to be
down by the waverly
i don't think you'll remember

don't act like it's some surprise
the end of this long free ride
consider yourself fortunate i asked you

and even the stars are alive
even the stars at night
even a star like you
can be looking for something

you've got a light like mine
even a light like mine

never a night goes by
i know what you like

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Science for Girls’ song “14 Days” seem to be about a specific location and a specific time period. The location is “14th street, corner of 7th Ave,” and the time period is “14 days.” It’s unclear exactly what significance these details hold, but they seem to serve as anchor points for the song’s musings on life and the universe. The repeated refrain of “even the stars are alive” suggests a larger perspective on humanity’s place in the world, and the idea that even celestial bodies have their own concerns and desires.

The song’s lyrics also touch on the idea of chance and circumstance, with lines like “life is a game of chance” and “consider yourself fortunate I asked you.” The verses seem to be a series of disconnected observations and musings, but they all have a sense of urgency and immediacy. The singer seems to be searching for something, or trying to understand something, and is never quite satisfied with the answers they find. The final lines of the song, “I don't know what to wish for / I don't know how to carry on / I never know what to say / To a gray / September rainy day / Except go away” suggest a sense of frustration and a desire to escape.

Overall, “14 Days” is a reflective and somewhat melancholy song that touches on themes of chance, circumstance, and the search for meaning. The repeated refrain of “even the stars are alive” gives the song a sense of wonder and awe, even as it acknowledges the difficulty of finding one’s place in the world.

Это супер! Это высокий класс и высокий стиль! Абсолютно недооценённая вещь, не принятая безумной толпой... Потрясающе!

One of my favorite songs while I was recovering from pain killer addiction in 2008 . This song brings back so many memories even though I was struggling back then this song would brighten up my spirits for some reason… maybe it calmed my additive behavior … thanks for this beautiful song ❤️

This song is beautiful. I heard it on NPR the other day. I bought the Science For Girls album and as a whole, very impressive, particularly her brother's cut on it called Pattern Recognition and Sweet Life with Jean Rohe that opens with: "I'm going to be a farmer, plowing the fields in the morning sun. I'll have a million horses and take me a ride when the work is done." Beautiful stuff.

Классная песня.

I love this song. Love the beat, love the voice, low the whisper-esque of it all. Well done.
