Do You Hear What I Hear?
Scott Bradlee & Postmodern Jukebox feat. Ashley Stroud Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Said the night wind to the little lamb,
Do you see what I see
Way up in the sky, little lamb,
Do you see what I see
A star, a star, dancing in the night
With a tail as big as a kite
With a tail as big as a kite
Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy,
Do you hear what I hear
Ringing through the sky, shepherd boy,
Do you hear what I hear
A song, a song, high above the trees
With a voice as big as the sea
With a voice as big as the sea

Said the shepherd boy to the mighty king,
Do you know what I know
In your palace warm, mighty king,
Do you know what I know
A Child, a Child shivers in the cold
Let us bring Him silver and gold
Let us bring Him silver and gold
Said the king to the people everywhere,
Listen to what I say
Pray for peace, people everywhere!
Listen to what I say
The Child, the Child, sleeping in the night

He will bring us goodness and light
He will bring us goodness and light...

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Scott Bradlee Postmodern Jukebox feat. Ashley Stroud's song "Do You Hear What I Hear?" are full of vivid imagery and symbolism. The song is a conversation between various characters - a night wind, a little lamb, a shepherd boy, a mighty king, and the people - about a wondrous event happening in the sky. The night wind asks the little lamb if it sees what it sees, which is a star with a tail as big as a kite. The little lamb then asks the shepherd boy if he hears what he hears, which is a song with a voice as big as the sea, coming from high above the trees. The shepherd boy then tells the mighty king about what he hears, which is a child shivering in the cold, and suggests they bring him silver and gold. Finally, the king tells the people to pray for peace and announces that the child will bring them goodness and light.

This is brilliant and I love that the vintage costumes match each Spice Girls’ style!

@tiamarie6719

I noticed that too. That's probably exactly what they would've looked like, if they had been around back then.

@APoliticalConfusionAndMess

Didn't think I'd see you here!

@mikcomai

But I don't see any representation of Sporty Spice.

Thank you for shifting my attention at him! <3 My dad was a guitarist and he used to smile like this when he played and enjoyed some piece like this. It was a sweet reminder. He is jamming in heaven now <3
