Living far from prevailing blues currents near Woodville, Mississippi some fifteen miles from Lake Mary, Scott Dunbar was a musician of extraordinary and utterly singular ability. Dunbar passed away at the age of 90 in 1994 with his death largely unnoticed outside of a couple of obituaries in blues magazines and a recorded legacy of nineteen issued sides.
Living off the beaten path caused Dunbar to develop a highly individual style, while traditional, still far removed form other blues currents. His highly rhythmic guitar style, played in a variety of different tunings, emphasized by his stomping foot, creates a beautiful sound. Dunbar sings, hums, and chants along with the melody, at times singing the lyrics in straightforward fashion, other times wordlessly.

Little Angel

La-la-la-la-la-la-la-yeah
La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
Sweet little vine creeping up your spine
She got just the right sparkle in her big blue eyes
Yeah
Floating through your head all the time
She's a white lace virus
That's controlling your mind
Yeah
Love is a temple, yes - a higher law
But do you remember
How we use to walk while on your bloody knees you crawl?
You spend your nights in church or all alone
To ease her pretty head
Maybe she will finally trust you
When you are dead
Yeah
That little vampire is sucking you dry
That little vampire is sucking you dry
That little angel...
And while you're busy trying not to make her cry
That little vampire is sucking you dry
That little angel...
That little vampire is sucking you dry
She is a ...
You got your ship pointed straight and true
To her star
I know you can't reach my hand so i'm screaming
From afar
You try to stop her worrying machine
But it's going full tilt
Will i still be your best man
Now that the beans are spilt?
The lyrics of "Little Angel" by Scott Dunbar describe a person who is falling in love with a girl who appears to be innocent and sweet, but who is actually manipulating and controlling him. The first verse talks about how this little angel has crept into his life and taken control of his mind. The second verse talks about how love is a powerful force, but it can also consume you and make you do things you wouldn't normally do. The chorus describes how this little angel is like a vampire who is draining him of his energy, but he is still trying to please her and avoid making her cry. The last verse talks about how he is trying to break free from her control, but he is not sure if he will be able to do it.
The song uses metaphors to describe the relationship between the two characters. The little angel is compared to a vine and a white lace virus, which suggests that she is invasive and difficult to control. She is also compared to a vampire, which suggests that she is draining the singer of his life force. The lyrics suggest that the singer is aware that he is being manipulated, but he is still helpless in the face of the little angel's charms.
Overall, "Little Angel" is a cautionary tale about the dangers of falling in love with someone who may not have your best interests at heart. The song suggests that it is important to be aware of the subtle ways that people can manipulate and control us, and to be strong enough to resist their charms if they are not good for us.
