He emerged in the 1970s and at the time he was considered to be one of the few musicians of real talent who carried the tradition of the classic jazz tenor saxophone in the style of Ben Webster, Coleman Hawkins as well as Zoot Sims and Don Byas forward. He began playing in various rhythm & blues outfits in Providence (Rhode Island), but subsequently shifted to jazz and the tenor saxophone. In 1976 he moved to New York City at, in part the recommendation of Roy Eldridge. He there joined Benny Goodman for a period of time. During this time, he also developed an alcohol problem.,[1] In the early 1980's he had formed his own quintet and toured all over the world. By then free from his drinking habit, in 1982 he had matured sufficiently to be able to break away from the spell of mainly Ben Webster and Zoot Sims, of whom he had been criticized of imitating. From this point on both his playing and his tone was very much his own.
Living in New York City, he toured all around the world during the 1980's, playing Japan and all over Europe. He was in particular a recurrent visitor to the UK, Sweden and the Grand Parade du Jazz, held in Nice, France. By the early 1990's he was ready for a next step and by 1994 when he released Organic Duke, he had developed a quite singular style: a large, well rounded but still focused tone and improvising, ostensibly still based on the swing idiom (especially Ellington), but incorporating more modern elements. During this period, he relocated to London, and formed his current quartet, featuring John Pearce (p), Dave Green (b) and Steve Brown (dr). He is currently active touring all over Europe.
He has had over forty albums as a lead most on the Concord Records label.
I Love You
Scott Hamilton Lyrics

And when you smiled at me,
In my heart I felt a thrill you see,
That it was love at sight and
I was right to love you as I do.
Still I never dreamed that you could love me too.
Your eyes of blue, your kisses too,
I can't believe that you're in love with me.
You're telling ev'ry one I know
I'm on your mind each place we go
They can't believe that you're in love with me.
I have always placed you far above me.
I just can't imagine that you love me.
And after all is said and done,
To think that I'm the lucky one.
I can't believe that you're in love with me.
Skies are gray. I'm blue each day
When you are not around.
Ev'ry thing goes wrong, my dear I've found
But when you're by my side I fill with pride
For I'm so proud of you
It all seems too good to me to all be true
Your eyes of blue, your kisses too,
I never knew what they could do.
The lyrics to Scott Hamilton's "That's All" express the singer's desire to give everything he can to his love, which includes his time, his heart, and his unwavering devotion. The opening lines, "I can only give you love that lasts forever, and the promise to be near each time you call," communicate the singer's intent to be there for his love whenever they need him. He then goes on to describe the other things he can offer, like country walks in springtime, a hand to hold during the fall, and a love that will warm the winter nights.
The song emphasizes that while others may offer worldly possessions and power, the singer only needs the love of his partner to feel complete. The lyrics "All I ask for these arms to enfold you, and a love, time can never destroy," reinforce the singer's desire for a deep and meaningful connection with his love. The song's chorus emphasizes this idea, with the repetition of "that's all, that's all," to remind his partner that his devotion to them is all he requires for happiness.
Overall, "That's All" is a simple yet beautiful expression of love and devotion, with heartfelt lyrics and a beautiful melody. The song is a reminder that true love does not require material possessions or grand gestures, but rather the commitment and support of a partner who is always there for you.
