Swimming Story
Sea Oleena Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sitting at the bottom of the swimming pool;
Did you see me?
Did you see me?
Did you see me?
Did you see me?
Did you see me?
Sitting at the bottom of the swimming pool.
I was a mermaid.

Overall Meaning

These lyrics from Sea Oleena's song "Swimming Story" evoke a sense of introspection and isolation. The repetition of the question "Did you see me?" suggests a longing for recognition and connection. The image of sitting at the bottom of the swimming pool conveys a feeling of being submerged, both physically and emotionally. It could be interpreted as a metaphor for feeling overwhelmed or overlooked, perhaps by a specific individual or society at large. By repeatedly asking if the listener saw them, the singer is seeking validation and affirmation of their existence.

The line "I was a mermaid" introduces a dreamlike element to the lyrics, adding a touch of whimsy and imagination to the narrative. Mermaids are often associated with beauty, mystery, and a sense of otherworldliness. By identifying as a mermaid, the singer may be embracing a part of themselves that is unique, magical, or misunderstood. This self-identification could also symbolize a desire to escape from reality and enter a fantastical realm where they can be free from the constraints of everyday life.

The act of sitting at the bottom of the swimming pool can be seen as a form of introspection and contemplation. Water is often symbolic of the subconscious mind and emotions, so being submerged in a pool could represent a deep dive into one's inner thoughts and feelings. The repetition of the question "Did you see me?" could reflect a fear of being overlooked or misunderstood, prompting the singer to seek reassurance and connection with others. By placing themselves in a vulnerable position at the bottom of the pool, the singer may be expressing a sense of vulnerability or longing for understanding.

Overall, these lyrics convey a complex mix of emotions, including yearning, vulnerability, and a longing for connection. Through the imagery of sitting at the bottom of a swimming pool and identifying as a mermaid, Sea Oleena creates a surreal and introspective atmosphere that invites listeners to delve into the depths of their own emotions and experiences. The repetition of the question "Did you see me?" underscores the singer's desire for validation and recognition, highlighting the universal need for understanding and connection in a world that can often feel isolating and indifferent.

This sounds like the moment you look in the mirror and actually start to like what you see.

had this looped for nights a few months ago when someone i had considered the love of my life decided to end things with me. this song is the only thing that kept my head above water. it gave me so much imagery of the future things i’d like to experience, going to a lake, walking through american woods, feeling mist on my skin, feeling pretty again. this song reminds me of all the young and feminine love i was able to give him, i gave him my whole heart and i don’t regret a thing. being able to feel so deeply has felt like rebirth almost. feeling things is such a blessing. i’m glad his love nourished my soul.

Every couple months for the past few years I come back to this one when I need a good cry or something. Never gets old.

I stumbled upon this tune at the time it was originally posted. Then unfortunately I forgot it completely, accept the part of the name that includes swimming. And like a splinter on my mind I tried so many endless combinations with the word swimming in the search engine for hours on end, (you can imagine that many thousands of videos come up with that word that is the actual act of swimming)failing & failing, only to try again here and there for years to no avail. Needles to say now that I'm at this beautifully nostalgic place with an ultimate sense of relief, I feel that I am smoking a proverbial cigar after the success of this rediscovery of a life time!
