My friend showed me this song after watching you live a while ago.
We hadn't spoke in months and she messaged me at the time I needed her. She was the only friend who ever met my mother before she died.
She protected me, and loved me through the worst of life. And this song brought her back to me.
Thanks lad x

Second verse lyrics?

Football on the saturday
down Springhill field round by ???
where we first became friends

@glorkspangle

I'm going with "Round by Dave's". So I've got this:

By a hospital bed
the last words that she said,
as I leant in to say my goodbyes,
left a lasting impression:
a lifetime worth of lessons,
make the most of it cos it'll fly.
And she asked me a favour
to look after you;
I promised her that I would.
And I swore there and then
I'd pick you back up again:
I'd get you on the mend
in any way I could.
But I ain't seen you in weeks.

And I swear down I'll keep my promise to her.
swear down I'll honour it, I will.
swear down I'll keep my word.
You're my boy,
you're my boy,
you're my boy,
you're my boy,
you're my boy,
you have been since day one.

Football on the Saturday
down Springhill field round by Dave's
where we first became friends
St Mary's in the afternoon:
your brother weren't around to use
his ticket it was weird being in the home end.
To youth club in the evening
penny squeezing scheming
trying not to get banned
To sleepovers, a PS2,
we'd text the girls we thought
who might chance it on two unlikely lads.
But I ain't seen you in months.

And I swear down I'll keep my promise to her.
Swear down I'll honour it, I will.
Swear down I'll keep my word.
You're my boy,
you're my boy,
you're my boy,
you're my boy,
you're my boy,
you have been since day one.

So now each year my birthday
always leaves a bitter taste
knowing the following day I got your call.
You rang me up to say she'd passed.
My breaking voice, my aching heart,
shattered for you all.
But I held back the tears
made my words crystal clear
as I promised you that I would.
And I swore there and then
I'd pick you back up again
I'd get you on the mend in any way I could.

So what are you saying this week?

And I swear down I'll keep my promise to her.
Swear down I'll honour it, I will.
Swear down I'll keep my word.
You're my boy,
you're my boy,
you're my boy,
you're my boy,
you're my boy,
you have been since day one.

@strummerboy
