Recall
Seaweed Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

This chapter is trite-I don't want that
Too much work to revise
Not all passion is lost
Just my youth is at cost

*chorus*
Before you speak
Recall what you said
Recall how we held
Recall and I'll tighten the knot

Check the first latch
Does it let in the gray
The excitement we lack
Could be made up in pain

*chorus*

I wish he'd leave today
But his manners speak and I don't think so
I wish he'd leave today
But his manners speak where I don't

We did get along
Common ground not the plea

If you learn to forgive
Caution could be replaced

Overall Meaning

The song Recall by Seaweed speaks about a person who is reflecting on their past and how it affects their present. The first verse talks about revising a chapter, which is a metaphor for life, and not being interested in repeating the same things. The singer wants to move forward but acknowledges that some aspects of their youth will be lost. The chorus is a plea to whoever they are speaking to, to remember their past experiences and hold on to the connection they shared. They ask them to recall the moments they had together, both good and bad, and to hold on to that bond.

In the second verse, the singer uses a latch metaphor to describe how the person they are speaking to is blocking them from feeling complete. The “gray” that the latch lets in represents the dullness and lack of excitement that they experience in their relationship. The singer acknowledges that although they have differences, they were able to connect on some level but has now reached a point where they desire more in life. The final verse is about forgiveness and how caution can be replaced if one is open to forgiving others.

Overall, the song Recall is about recalling memories, both good and bad, and using them as a means to move forward in life. It speaks about relationships, forgiveness, and moving on from what no longer serves us.
