The song “Plastic Wrist” by Secret Empire is a song about self-destruction and the fear of falling. The first stanza “In the worst times, I say the best lines, In the place with the city view, I sit and smile like I'm someone new” talks about how the singer often tries to put up a façade of a happy, confident person, when in reality they are struggling. The next few lines “I'll never back down, I'll never turn around, But I'm afraid of coming down, So what's the distance to the ground?” is showing the conflicting situation where the singer is determined to not give up, but at the same time too scared to fall.

The third stanza “I can't wait to meet you, My only one, And ask forgiveness, For all I've done, But I don't want to wait that long, No, I don't want to wait that long” talks about how they want to find someone to connect with and be able to seek forgiveness for their past actions. They are tired of waiting and want to find someone they can rely on soon. It becomes clear that they have a hard time being alone in the lines “I can't be alone without burning, So can I take you home and fuck with you?” where they are asking someone to go home with them so that they won’t have to be alone. The following lines “Man, I don't feel the way I used too, But I don't mind as long as you do, I watched them laugh at my fortitude, A plastic wrist and a brand new view” talk about how the singer is willing to change themselves for someone they care about, even if they are made fun of.

The last stanza “Lock your doors, And wait it out, Ignore the sound, I'll wipe the grin from your mouth, I'm going to save your soul, For my own sake, Who would have known? It was my biggest mistake, God loves, God loves, God loves your little soul” is indicating that the singer may have been toxic in their past relationships. They want to change themselves and save their partner’s soul as a way of redeeming themselves. They are struggling with their own problems and toxicity, and are trying to find a way to improve themselves.
