😮 My Dad kept telling us kids he helped save Clint Eastwood when he was in the military during the Korean War. We never believed him! Dad and Sampson were from Seattle, my Dad went Coast Guard becoming Commander of a Cutter and was called out to search for the pilot and plane. He met both men while writing up the report. Dad is 93 and still healthy, I have to call and apologize to him! Dad just had his 94th Birthday...and still remembers this <3

one of the most insane aspects of this whole ordeal for me is the fact that, had it not been for the error that resulted in the plane not having enough fuel, then anderson would have never lowered his altitude and samson (eastwood) would have certainly succumbed to the lack of oxygen due to the open hatch and died.

its just downright miraculous that amidst the seemingly unending series of unlucky events for the men, one of those unlucky occurrences actually ended up saving eastwood's life.

Its cool to hear a story about the Korean War. They dont talk about it enough. My father was in Korea on the front lines. He was an army infantryman. There isnt a day that goes by that he doesnt tell me a story about his experience. Hes almost 93 and still in pretty good health. I have tons of love and respect for him! Hes a hero in my book!

Those that speak lots about it weren't in the shit, those that see real action rarely if ever speak about it, i knew a man from Illinois born in 1923 and served in the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles and he was one of the many misdrops and he was eventually captured and spent the last 11 days of the war as a POW. He only spoke about it a couple or three times and only when asked also telling me he was starving when liberated. Funnily enough he saw Al Capone as a six yr old his father pointed him out sitting hunched up in a car among a convoy,

that happened a lot more often than people realize, most were sent to other places other than Korea or Vietnam if they had something that could benefit the military…and not everyone was made an infantryman! a huge amount became clerks, drivers, engineers, or other mundane things for their two years of service

@Kaylon Rome I know it is a joke, but in the Olympics a lifeguard is essential, everyone there for sure are amazing swimmers, but if someone suffers a bad cramp or heart attack or anything major, nobody in the pool is paying attention to the opponents, and nobody in the stands will jump to help because they don't want to disrupt the Olympic games, a life guard will be the only one paying close attention to the guy that stops swimming, and problems are very common, since it is a highly demanding sport, people are close to the limit, and that's when stuff tends to go wrong.

Sort of reminds me of Steve Buscemi’s background. He was a firefighter in NYC before he became an actor. On 9/11 he dropped everything to join his former unit as a volunteer and help with search and rescue efforts. He wore a mask the entire time because he didn’t want publicity take the focus off of the other responders who he believed were the real heroes. He says he would still be a firefighter to this day if he didn’t find passion and success in acting so he continues to be an advocate and voice for FDNY anytime they are in need of community support.

Not sure how much of a badass he really is , other than what he acts . Clint Eastwood is no more a hero than he is a real cowboy . I got chills when he said the name at the end and I said out loud “OMG!”
But there are so many heroes even if we don’t know their names!
My dad was one of them! He was in the Battle of the Bulge in 1944 captured Dec 16th. He was a POW for 6 months and was down to 80 pounds when rescued.
I respect all these men so much!
So many heroes! I also have so much respect for Mr. Ballen as well!
I thank them all for their service!

So much respect to your dad 💯 I really mean that. But unfortunately most of the military are just pawns doing the dirty work for the elites and billionaires who benefit. Plus the amount of money passed around eveytime there's a war. Its disgraceful 1000's lose their lives for the greater good of their country when this is very rarely the case.

I had read before Clint Eastwood had been in a plane that crashed at sea, but I wasn't aware of all he went through. Wow, the way MR. Ballen describes stories, it makes them all come to life. YOU , MR. Ballen have a natural talent. So good

@Omarra67 I kinda was(not that it was Eastwood), I was just prepared for it to be someone...like JFK...but not actually JFK because I know how his plane crash and then subsequent rescue went and how there were more men with him...and also I thought he washed up almost immediately on a beech...and now that I'm just doing my poor mans Mark Twain, I realize he may have been in a ship that sunk...but all the same, I knew it'd be SOMEONE famous or...why else the title?

Freaking love Clint Eastwood. I mean my dad met him once as a taxi driver. Apparently he was a jerk to my dad, even though he was also a fan but wasn’t gushing about it. Just politely said he was a huge fan and gave him the best route for his ride. Maybe he had a bad day? It was funny bc this was back right after Dirty Harry first came out. Awesome series

Wow, I always had a feeling Clint's pretty nuts irl, but risking your life for the sake of not getting late, is one of the most stupid and saddest things I've heard. If he's dead he is no use to the army either... Lucky him, that he survived it after all and probably that lesson about panic changed him into the calm man he became later on.

He was in one of the 2 rear radio operator seats of an AD4 Skyraider. He had a crewmember seat with harness and wasn’t jammed in a compartment that wasn’t supposed to have a person in it. That compartment is separate from the cockpit but is still a crew station. Even has a window.
