Dazed and abused
Seether Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Produce the demons within us
Pointless trials but don't be late
Cause someone's always pissed off
Disrespect me cause I'm ugly
Don't give me your stupid pity
There are no hands to tell
To tell the time
Your selfish hands invade this time
And break through all of my fences
In Seether's song "Dazed and Abused", there is a lot of reflection on struggle, particularly with the darker side of the human psyche. The singer is apparently an artist who is feeling very alone and misunderstood. For example, he says that he "amuses himself with pots of paint" and is able to "produce the demons within us." This seems to mean that he is able to channel his own pain and inner demons into his art, but that people around him don't understand that process. He also references "pointless trials," which may mean that he has been through some difficult times without any real positive outcome. Despite this, he is still holding on and urging those around him not to be late, because "someone's always pissed off."
There is also a sense of defiance in the lyrics. The singer notes that he is being disrespected because he is "ugly," but he doesn't want anyone's "stupid pity." He seems almost proud of his differences. He also mentions that "there are no hands to tell / to tell the time," which could be a metaphor for feeling like he is alone and doesn't have anyone else to rely on. However, he also states that he is the "master of [his] destination," meaning that he is in control of his own life and able to make his own choices. Despite this, he feels like other people are "invading" his time and breaking through his "fences," which could be interpreted as boundaries or defenses that he has put up to protect himself.
