Warm Winter
Seth Sentry Lyrics

Yeh, yo
And then there was one, a girl young, hair in a bun
Buried under rubble, pummeling the air from her lungs
Shes stunned, she really should be scared but shes numb
So she keeps tunneling towards the glare of the sun
And she wonders, who was sick enough to have done this
One minute she sits at her class desk the next shes under it
And outta the hundreds, that went down, shes the only one that made it out among them
And she stumbles, through the debree as it crumbles
Truthfully if you could have seen what she saw, you wouldnt have believed it all
'is this a war?' surely not it couldnt reach our shores (nah)
Surely not they couldnt breach our walls
We're the good guys we shouldnt fall
And she screams, now this is not a dream
But somehow the scene just looks different on the screen

My mum said its gonna be a warm winter
My dad said its gonna be a warm winter
Your god said its gonna be a warm winter
Everythings a little bit crazy right now
Everyones a little bit strange and right now
All i wanna do is find a place to hide out
Watch for the bombs falling outta the sky now

And this is how it all ended,
Allied with some powerful friends that
Vowed to keep our towers defended, if only we let them
Our hand in a plan to take over a land so we packed bags and entered
No questions, no sweat lets just conquer, wouldnt wanna risk that friendship
Besides, this is for the best of reasons, a pretence that this was an offensive defense
(and here we come, peace keepers holding machine guns, the bombs whistle songs of freedom)
And we beat them, yeh we taught them
Slaughtered all of em and patrolled the borders and oil drums
Bought a fortune and we tortured em and fought the boredom off
The order 'just surrender' when the coallition forces come
And on the seventh day we rested, look at all the good we did
Our kids are protected

My mum said its gonna be a warm winter
My dad said its gonna be a warm winter
Your god said its gonna be a warm winter
Everythings a little bit crazy right now
Everyones a little bit strange and right now
All i wanna do is find a place to hide out
Watch for the bombs falling outta the sky now

So we came home, handshakes and ticket tape parades
Ace of spades swinging from a rope, 'hip hooray for the saviours'
We didnt even notice the changes, a disease born more contageous than aids is
Yeh, paranoia had changed us, the fear made us insane, afraid of our neighbours
The mere delay of a train was taken as strange
And every brown paper bag was an al-quaeda attack
And every street corner had an armed marine on it
Peace keepers here to keep the peace that we wanted
They took the streets from us, our own leaders
Who the fuck would invade a country for no reason? Oh Jesus
Goodbye freedom, bye liberty, goodbye sense, goodbye friends, high 50 metre wire fence
Irony, yeh didnt we define it, signed over our rights but didnt read the fine print
Opened our eye lids and stormed into the streets for peace, its gonna be a warm winter indeed
So there it is, how we became the terrorists at war with our government
'OK kids class dismissed'

My mum said its gonna be a warm winter
My dad said its gonna be a warm winter
Your god said its gonna be a warm winter
Everythings a little bit crazy right now
Everyones a little bit strange and right now

All i wanna do is find a place to hide out
Watch for the bombs falling outta the sky now

Overall Meaning

"Warm Winter" by Seth Sentry is a narrative about the gradual descent of a society into war and paranoia. The song begins with a young girl buried under rubble; the victim of an attack that she doesn't understand. The singer stumbles her way through the debris, recalling how her perception of the world abruptly changed due to the attack. The song refers to the United States' response to the 9/11 attacks and the decision to go to war in Iraq. Seth Sentry highlights how the government used the public's fear and desire for retaliation to justify military intervention without any real provocation.

The term "warm winter" is used throughout the song to refer to the irony of the government and media's assurances that things were going to be alright despite the impending war, chaos, and societal upheaval. The chorus of the song is a reminder that everything is a little bit crazy right now, and everyone's a little bit strange, indicating how the society's fabric has been irreparably damaged by war and the panic that followed.

The lyrics of "Warm Winter" are a poignant social commentary on the politics of fear that emerged after the 9/11 attacks. The song highlights the manipulation of the public through the media and political rhetoric. It warns of the dangers of blindly following authority and the sacrifices people make for the illusion of safety.

This is a shtty world, to bad we water born on it, at least we're don't have to stay a human

I Got cleaned out by my first one who sucked out my bank account and ran up debt and did it again. We were done, she started dating other people and i fell in love with another. Six good months months together and I spent the next five years chasing a sweet side of her I couldn't see anymore. I was just a rent check that fell in love with an illusion and got burned by the cold. I asked her if she wanted someone else, she just didn't seem to be in love. I told her I loved her so much I wouldn't want to keep her in a relationship she was over. I told her she should find someone else and we should go our separate ways. I said "if you want me out tomorrow, I don't know what I'll do, but I'll figure it out, if you want to give me a month to save up some money, that'd be cool, if you want to live aa roommates for awhile until you find someone else and my check's on the table while I'm here, that's fine too." She said "Ok." She asked me if I'd still help her out with the adoption to get the rights revoked from her x who was getting out of prison. She always said "I don't need child support from anyone, how do you think I made it all these years, I made it just fine on my own." She was always proud of that and acted like I gave her nothing. The mortgage was 800 a month, she got a really good deal. (My first x stopped making payments to the bank and ran up debt while I was working and said here's my money just pay the bills. I got stuck paying alimony and child support while she has already sucked my money out to get family business and had a boyfriend that worked with them living with her 6 days a week.) So I had 1,200- finally 1,600 a month for her, and I did side jobs for her, buying materials out of my account when she got paid for the jobs in cash. She said, 'do you realize some weeks you only gave me $100," one week I bought her a bike, another week I bought auto parts for her minivan and there were weeks i bought materials for her side jobs, one she made 2K on in two weekends. When she asked me if I would still help her out with the adoption when I told her I thought we should break up, I said " you always said you didn't want child support, if you want me to sign a piece of paper as a friend so you can get the other three kids adopted in your name, and that's it, we go our own separate ways, fine." She scheduled a day at a chapel and set up a day at the court for me to sign the adoption paper. We ended up living with each other for what seemed a cold, pretty dead-to-me year. She tells me she wants to be separated and she has someone else. I packed up that night and left the next day. She blamed me for leaving her and acted like she didn't know why I left, which brought me back to her with Love, then she'd push me away, she'd tell me that she loved me and wanted to get back together then ignore me for the next 3 days, text that she misses me then ignore me for a week. Then she came over and slept with me again, put my wedding ring on my finger, then told me the next night that she made a mistake. I really think she was trying to push me over the edge, she was continually so cruel to me. I finally told her, "I'm done dying for you, I wish you and your new guy the best " she had broken up with him and gotten back together. She said "that's fine, but you have Responsibilites..." She said she wanted child support "You're they're legal father." I would have never signed the papers if I knew she was going to go back on our agreement and try and screw me over. I just fell in love with an illusion and there's nothing left of it which I thought was her, it's like I see her now with her mask off. She didn't care if I lived or died, she knew what she was doing to me and keep being really cruel to me, leading me back and pushing me away, now after getting a new guy and telling me she wants me out she wants to screw my over and try and steal my wallet. It'd be like if I tried to get child support from her for my three kids, I totally got setup. When I texted and reminded her of out agreement, that I was just helping her out as a friend on my way out to get the rights revoked, no strings attached and she told me she didn't want child support, she tells me "Circumstances have changed." She said she wouldn't get a divorce and if we ever did it would be because I filed, now she's filled for divorce and wants child support for her she the last guys kids who is now out of prison and all I agreed to do with her was help her get the rights revoked. I told her if she wants child support for his kids she should ask him. But she says the relationship was never about my money. Don't ever sign anything for anyone, just never stop dating and keep separate accounts

This isn't like we had adopted a child from another country and they're living here now because of us and then we split, we were going to go our own separate ways and she asked new if I'd still help her out with the adoption to get her X's rights revoked.

They go after con artists who lie to people and get then to sign contacts and then come after them for money, but maybe the judge won't listen to Rule 216g on a Request for Admissions or text messages he said to put in chronological order then tells you not to file anything else as it makes more paperwork for the court, then when you come back he won't look at the text messages, ignores the Request for Admission statements and facts that is now deemed true in court since the x did not admit or deny the statements that her texts prove, then the judge tells you he doesn't see enough evidence then cites a case where someone else got married signed the other parties adoption papers for her kids then annulled the marriage and the court got him for child support and says you have to pay, when the court appointed adoption attorney misled you: I asked her,"Is there any other way for her to get these rights revoked other than me signing a piece of paper?" She said "No." I said "I think that's b.s., one, a woman shouldn't have to have anyone sign anything for them to get rights revoked, she should be able to stand on her own, what if she's fine with men? What if she winds up with bad guy number two? And I think it's b.s. that this guy doesn't have to pay child support for his own biological kids, regardless of whether or not he gets to see them again because he's committed a crime against a member of the household." She said,"Unfortunately that's just the way it is."

If she told me as I find out from other lawyers later "Nope, she did not need an adoption to get the rights revoked, and she wasn't allowed to give you any legal advise but to say 'Im not allowed to give you legal advice but represent the children, you should get your own legal council'."

So I helped her get the rights revoked by signing for the three of her four minor children, the three were from the guy who molested her daughter. Now the judge doesn't say anything about the fraud she's committing against me, but seemed to suggest I committed fraud by saying wedding vows that weren't true and committing adoption fraud against myself. He said week what about her children, they can't get child support from their father, who pays for them? I said that's on her, she told me she didn't want child support but when we agreed to go out own separate ways asked me if I'd still help her get the rights revoked. I said "if you don't want child support, but just want me to sign a piece of paper as a friend, and that's it, and we go our own separate ways, then fine." She said okay and set the wedding back up. She said the didn't need child support from anyone and in five years never went after her ex whose out of jail and got four years for molesting her daughter in the night when he was messed up on her pills. Now she's going to steal from my three children I pay child support for. She's using the court to commit fraud, they should just specialize in robberies and executions of the victims. 20 D 92 , 17 AD 19

And it's all just a little bit of history repeating. I appreciate the lines that talk about fear being the deadliest of all contagious

I'm struggling today. I just can't fully process what's happening in the world. I feel so sick.
Everywhere I look people are analysing and talking about history and politics and fair enough, I get it probably helps to focus on facts and numbers.

I'm just walking home from the shops in my safe neighbourhood, trying to package myself up before I get home to my safe, healthy and happy kids.

I don't know if this made sense, it feels clunky and jagged, but to anyone else here because poetry helps make sense of things, anyone else feeling the contrast on this beautiful morning in Melbourne.. or any other safe harbour, I love you and just breathe ❀
