Bandleader/founder Kirkwood began writing music as a teenager as an outlet for the pain he felt from parents' divorce. Guitarist Perry was the first to join up with Kirkwood's new project, and was quickly followed by the others as the newly formed quartet set up shop in Dallas. Seven Channels issued the independently released EP International Wonderful, and began gigging on a regular basis -- leading to being selected as one of the "Top Five Unsigned Bands in America" on VH1's 1999 Rock Across America Tour.
The new group caught a break when they won a contest called "Quit Your Day Job," which resulted in the winner receiving a record deal with the Palm Pictures label. 2001 saw the release of their self-titled major-label debut. ~ Greg Prato, All Music Guide

Seven Channels Lyrics

oh it stings us as we walk on by it changes everything
a dose of reality if you believe and receive it it will set you free
so throw your rocks at my glass box as you hear the sound
of me hit the ground but it will take more than that
to break me down so i'll decide what to do suffocate in life's residue
or will i breathe in the air now once again
it's like fluid when your spirit surrounds me
it drives me to find the peace i've left behind
even though i struggle through this troubled mind and it burns away the hate
i feel to day it's bigger than you and me so can i get a witness
it's coming around,
coming around again it's a
powerful force that can change everything. The lyrics to Seven Channels's song Fluid are a call to recognize the things we don't believe and how they ultimately end up hurting us. The singer realizes that accepting reality, though it may sting, can be freeing. He acknowledges the obstacles people throw his way, but he knows that they won't break him down. He must decide whether to be suffocated by the residue of life or take a deep breath and move forward.
The second verse speaks to the transformative nature of the "fluid" that surrounds the singer. It uplifts him and drives him to find the peace he has been missing. Although he is struggling, he is determined to overcome the hate he feels and rise above it. He knows that his journey is bigger than just him and wants others to witness this change. The song ends on a hopeful note, with the acknowledgment that this force will come around again.
