These Days
Sexsmith Ron Lyrics

Haven't you heard?
He said he'd never break your heart
Now haven't you learned?
You believed in the words
In all that they meant
Oh, but love is not some popular song
Filled with empty sentiment
That's what passes for love
That's what passes for love these days
It won't take a miracle, darlin'
Just keep it real
This world can make us cynical, darlin'
I know how it feels
You took it to heart
What they said on the screen
Oh, but love is not just playing a part
In some very scripted scene
That's what passes for love
That's what passes for love these days
No one can complete you or make you whole
But love will come to greet you half way
Though the streets are never paved with gold
Promises are made to be broken
Haven't you heard?
He said he'd never break your heart
Now haven't you learned?
You believed in the words
In all that they meant
Oh, but love is not some popular song
Filled with empty sentiment
That's what passes for love
That's what passes for love
That's what passes for love these days
The song "These Days" by Ron Sexsmith is about the misguided perceptions of love. The lyrics suggest that people often have unrealistic expectations of love, and that they are easily swayed by empty promises and superficial displays. The line "promises are made to be broken" highlights the fact that love is often seen as a fragile thing that can easily be shattered. The chorus warns that what people think is love, is actually just a facade - "That's what passes for love these days".
Sexsmith encourages the listener to be more realistic about love, and to not be influenced by the illusions created by society. The lyrics suggest that love requires honesty and real connection, and that it cannot be found in the fake displays of affection that are often seen in popular culture. The line "no one can complete you or make you whole" suggests that people need to find their own inner peace, and not rely on someone else to make them happy.
Overall, "These Days" is a poignant message about the reality of love, and the need to find true and authentic connections with people. It cautions against the superficial displays of affection that are often seen in popular culture, and encourages listeners to embrace the authenticity of real love.

How in the world did I miss out on this guy? He’s so good. This is Match 1, 2022! I can say today is starting out great. It’s officially Ron Sexsmith month at my house.
Madeleine Hague
Not even 1 million views yet? Ron Sexsmith continues to be under-appreciated. He's great! Don't just take my word for it, Elvis Costello, Nick Lowe and Paul McCartney think he's fab!

+Madeleine Hague haven't heard and learned, the 6 or so music conglomerates don't want real musical talent to be successful. They are slowly dumbing down each generation to see music, not hear it. That way they can pick/make their own stars with a computer, or something like that, it's hard to put into words and a long very depressing story.

It's great when you meet an great artist that comes across as being really cool and they turn out to be as nice as you hoped. Sometimes it's good to meet your heroes, I suppose. If they're anything like Ron.

Lucky! I met my favorite singer of 11 years and he was AWFUL.

The lyrics are clever and the melody is catchy. Sexsmith has taken a pessimistic observation and put a humorous spin on it. If that's not good enough for you, perhaps you'd be better off listening to the over-produced pablum that sells millions of copies.
Rocco Siffredi
great song. I discovered in the Intermission soundtrack.
