Hope for Us
Shadow Gallery Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Too late for us now?
I sat alone and I spoke out loud
On this darkened afternoon
The windows to my room
A solemn shutter on the world
Where I used to laugh and dream
For the first time in so long I make
My way down to the street and watch
The people as they pass

Outside I breathe the air
And all around fall shadows of despair

I wonder is there hope for us
A place where we can all be free
I wonder is there life inside a soul that dies?
I wonder is there hope for us
To lift me up I don't know when
I'll see the sun again
I'd like to feel alive
Just one more time

Headlines on the floor
Today's bitterness is the calling card
The commercial masquerade
The goods all on parade
The needs of life are charming toys
We've gone deaf from all the noise
WHen did the rich and powerful elite
Slowly and unnoticed
Come and steal our innocense?

Entranced - we danced their dance
The stage is set the crowd is on their knees

I wonder is there hope for us
A place where we can all be free
I wonder is there life inside a soul that dies
I wonder is there hope for us
We're stranded with no place to go
I'm feeling so alone

I'll try to make my way
Through one more day

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the song "Hope for Us" by Shadow Gallery expresses the feeling of hopelessness and despair in the world with an overwhelming sense of questions about the future. The singer describes his feeling of isolation and disconnection with the outside world. As he looks out the window, the world seems to be just a 'solemn shutter' that blinds him from the joys of life that he once felt. However, despite the despair, he still wonders if there is hope for mankind. He questions whether there is a place where they can all be free and whether there is still life in a soul that dies.

The singer reflects on the current state of the world, where commercialism and the needs of life have blinded people from the true essence of life. He wonders when the rich and powerful elites came and stole their innocence unnoticed. He highlights how people have become entranced and dance to their beat, oblivious of their situation. He drives home the message that they are stranded with no place left to go, but he still wants to make it through one more day and feel alive again.

Overall, the song "Hope for Us" speaks to the universal issues of life that affect everyone. The feeling of isolation, hopelessness, and despair is something that everyone can relate to. The song highlights the need for people to think beyond the material things and focus on the things that matter, like finding hope in the face of despair, which is crucial for people facing challenging circumstances.

One of many great songs by SG. Hope we will see new material anytime soon. It‘s far too long since the last album.

I listen to hard and heavy music for more than 25 years, but I never felt like I'm flying over the seas and mountains until I've heard Shadow gallery, especially this song! Great, great band, unfortunatelly, this beutiful voice is gone, hopefuly he sings on some better place now.

Marc Moingeon

The most beautiful track on Tyranny, an album which is slightly more on the heavy side than its predecessor Carved In Stone. But SG are beyond labels, certainly progressive, a bit heavy metal, definitely inspired by Queen, classical music, Iron Maiden, Yngwqie Malsteen, Kansas, and many others... Here we have Shadow Gallery in their most sensitive style... This band should have been huge. R.I.P. Mike "Mr Bakes" Baker.

Adam Safranek
