1) A hardcore band featuring members of Turning Point and Godspeed. They had two releases, both on Harvest Records, a self titled 7" (1991) and a CD EP entitled "starshine" (1995).
The seven inch is not far from Turning Point, the CD EP has no traces whatsoever of hardcore, think the Smiths/Morrissey infuenced pop.
Shadow Season was formed after the breakup of Turning Point, the year 1991 in New Jersey. Hardcore with melodic touches and heartbreaking lyrics, clearly influenced by The Smiths. They had a similar sound although a little more aggressive than Grave Goods, the band from which Shadow Season took its name.
2) A Norwegian/Irish black metal band.

Shadow Season Lyrics

The floor drops out from under me
The well has run dry
And it pains me to see it pass me by
Pass me by
Fighting to keep my head above the water
But it keeps pulling me down
Working my way back to the surface
Lose more ground
Arms grow tired from wading in these waters
Not knowing what's ahead of me
Sometimes I feel like sinking beneath it all
And let the tide take me away. Take me away
Drifting away I dream of a place
One can truly be free
Free of demands and the pains of others
Where I, I can just be. I can just be
Take me away. Take me away. Take me away
The lyrics of "Drifting" by Shadow Season convey a sense of struggle and uncertainty in one's journey through life. The opening lines suggest a recurring pattern of having something to believe in, only to have it taken away abruptly. This creates a feeling of instability, as if the ground is constantly shifting beneath one's feet. The metaphor of a well running dry represents a loss of inspiration or motivation, something that is deeply painful to witness slipping away.
The subsequent lines paint a picture of someone fighting to stay afloat, to keep their head above water. However, despite their efforts, they seem to be continuously pulled down, losing more ground each time they manage to resurface. The repetition of this theme emphasizes the difficulty of maintaining progress in the face of constant setbacks.
The lyrics also touch upon the weariness that arises from enduring these struggles. The imagery of wading in waters for an extended period of time suggests a physical and emotional drain. The uncertainty of what lies ahead adds to the overall fatigue, creating a sense of vulnerability and apprehension.
The chorus introduces a dream-like escape, a yearning for a place where one can truly be free. This desire stems from feeling overwhelmed by the demands and pains imposed by others. The repeated plea to be taken away implies a hope for release from the burdens that weigh them down, a longing for solace and peace.
Overall, "Drifting" explores the tumultuous nature of the human experience, wherein moments of hope and determination are constantly challenged by setbacks and uncertainties. It speaks to the desire for freedom and relief from the burdens of life, while acknowledging the constant struggle to maintain buoyancy in the face of adversity.
