King
Shae Fiol Lyrics

A trail of smoke he leaves behind
He's holding back years and holding back tears
He wishes he could just disappear
'Cause he's a child of light with a smile that shines
So easy to believe that there's nothing wrong
But the secrets he keeps are holding him down
All of him lost he walks and wanders
But he won't pay the cost
I hope that he can find the strength to be brave
'Cause if he doesn't he will end up in the rain
He's a king, a king, he doesn't want to know
All the words I sing aren't simply pretty notes
He floats up high, he's never coming down
Can he be reached somehow?
He's a king, a king, he doesn't want to know
All the words I sing, aren't simply pretty notes
He floats up high, he's never coming down
Can he be reached somehow?
I'm counting on Oshún, Oshún
I'm counting on Oshún, Oshún
I'm counting on Oshún, Oshún
Oshún, Oshún by the river
He's caught in a realm where his dreams prevail
He's trapped inside a fairy tale
He's bound to succeed but he has to believe
That there is worthiness in reality
'Cause he was born to reign
But slowly going insane
And if you look carefully then you can see
The man he owes it to himself to be
And all the possibilities
He's a king, a king, he doesn't want to know
All the words I sing aren't simply pretty notes
He floats up high, he's never coming down
Can he be reached somehow?
He's a king, a king, he doesn't want to know
All the words I sing aren't simply pretty notes
He floats up high, he's never coming down
Can he be reached somehow?
I'm counting on Oshún, Oshún
I'm counting on Oshún, Oshún
I'm counting on Oshún, Oshún
Oshún, Oshún by the river
I'm counting on Oshún, Oshún
I'm counting on Oshún, Oshún
I'm counting on Oshún, Oshún
Oshún, Oshún by the river
I'm counting on Oshún, Oshún
I'm counting on Oshún, Oshún
I'm counting on Oshún, Oshún
Oshún, Oshún by the river
He's a king, a king, he doesn't want to know
All the words I sing aren't simply pretty notes
He floats up high, he's never coming down
Can he be reached somehow?
"King" by Shae Fiol is a heartfelt ballad about a man who is struggling with his own demons as he tries to maintain the kingdom he has built for himself. The lyrics describe the man as running away from his problems like a train in the night leaving a trail of smoke behind him. He's holding back years and tears, wishing he could disappear but the secrets he keeps are holding him down. The man is presented as a child of light with a smile that shines, he seems to be happy on the surface and that there is nothing wrong with him. But, he's struggling to keep up with his kingdom and the weight of his secrets is holding him back.
The song describes the man as a king who doesn't want to acknowledge his problems. He's floating up high and he's never coming down, but the question remains if he can be reached somehow. The lyrics go on to talk about how the man is caught up in a realm where his dreams prevail but he's trapped inside a fairy tale. He's bound to succeed but he has to believe that there is worthiness in reality. Although he's slowly going insane, he was born to reign and he owes it to himself to be the man he's meant to be.
Overall, "King" is a beautifully written song that touches on the theme of struggling with identity and holding onto secrets. It encourages the listener to believe in themselves and to be the person they're meant to be.
