UTOPIA
Shaila Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

"Ella está en el horizonte
me acerco dos pasos,
ella se aleja dos pasos,
camino 10 pasos y

Overall Meaning

The lyrics in Shaila’s song Utopía are based on a quote by Eduardo Galeano that speaks about the concept of utopia, where he describes himself walking towards the horizon in order to reach utopia, but no matter how much he walks, he can never reach it. The lyrics express the idea that no matter how hard we strive for perfection or chase our dreams, there will always be something intangible that seems to elude us, but despite that, we must keep moving forward. The song suggests that despite this, the idea of utopia is still significant and has a purpose, which is to keep us moving forward, aspiring and working towards it, and that itself is meaningful.

Shaila's lyrics also touch on the idea of a woman who embodies the essence of light, an ideal that the singer is in pursuit of but can never fully obtain. The chorus repeats the fact that no matter how much the singer tries to reach her, he is left with the feeling of the utopia slipping further away. Despite this seemingly negative message, the lyrics come full circle by revealing that the whole point of utopia is not to be obtained, but to be pursued, and in that pursuit, the singer learns more about himself and what he wants.
