After several years of touring the Midwest with her father running the soundboard and her mom running lights, Shannon decided to make the move to Nashville, Tennessee. She paid the bills singing songwriters' demo sessions and managed to maintain her touring schedule of 160 dates a year. Her vocal stylings and industrious approach did not go unnoticed.
Shannon was signed to Arista Nashville for her first record contract in 1997. Her debut radio single, "I Won't Lie" was released in late 1998 but flopped. Her debut album, "A Tour of My Heart", was never released commercially. Shannon also had a song titled "Half A Man" which was released on the Happy, Texas: Music from the Miramax Motion Picture soundtrack. Subsequently, Shannon was transferred to BNA Records. In late 2001, she released her first radio single for BNA called, "Baby, I Lied." This was a remake of a Deborah Allen hit song. Shannon released the second BNA single to radio called, "Untangle My Heart." Both singles released on BNA were unsuccessful.
Currently, Brown is on her third record deal, with her Corn Fed album having been released in 2006. It was co-produced by John Rich.
Pearls
Shannon Brown Lyrics

Of everything they gave me, I treasure them most
Can't wear them, can't hold them, don't come from the ocean
Oh, they're way more precious than anything I own
They're written in my soul
Remember who you are and don't forget to pray
Be kind, be strong, be someone everyone can count on
Yeah, someday I'm gonna give my little girl these pearls, oh yeah, yeah
I'll teach her about make-up, boyfriends and break-ups
I'll share all the wisdom I've ever learned
Like beauty's on the inside and give it your best try
I'll pass down the same words, I've always heard
And she'll carry them with her
Remember who you are and don't forget to pray
Make sure he's your best friend when you give your heart away
Be kind, be strong, be someone everyone can count on
Yeah, someday I'm gonna give my little girl these pearls
She'll tell her daughter and she'll tell hers too
I've saved these pearls just for you, just for you
Remember who you are and don't forget to pray
Make sure he's your best friend when you give your heart away
Yeah, be kind, be strong, be someone everyone can count on
Yeah, someday I'm gonna give my little girl, oh
Someday I'm gonna give my little girl these pearls
These precious pearls
In this song, Shannon Brown talks about the important life lessons that she has learned from her mother and grandmother, encapsulated in the form of pearls. She describes these pearls as something that she treasures the most, even though she cannot wear or hold them, and that they hold more value than anything she owns. She explains that these pearls are not physical objects but are written in her soul, which means that they will always guide and inspire her throughout her life.
The first verse of the song talks about the origin of these pearls and how they were passed down from Shannon's mother and grandmother. Although they are not physical pearls, they are just as precious as the real thing, and they hold so much meaning and wisdom that it's impossible to put a price on them. Shannon then talks about how these pearls have shaped her life, and how she wants to pass them on to her daughter in the future. She talks about teaching her daughter about the things she has learned, passing on the same words she has always heard, and giving her daughter these pearls as a symbol of the lessons and values she wants her to hold onto throughout her life.
The chorus of the song reinforces the idea that these pearls are something that Shannon cherishes deeply, and that she wants to pass them on to her daughter and beyond. She talks about how these pearls have taught her to remember who she is, to never forget to pray, to be kind, strong, and someone that others can count on. These values and lessons are integral to who she is, and she wants to pass them down to future generations so that they can carry them with them forever.
Overall, "Pearls" is a touching and heartfelt song about the importance of family, values, and tradition. Shannon Brown pays tribute to the women in her life who have taught her so much, and she wants to pass those same lessons onto her daughter and future generations. The song encourages listeners to remember who they are, to be kind and strong, and to never forget the wisdom that has been passed down to them through the generations.
