Looking back
I know I was walking around in disguise
In disguise
I was just a lost soul I needed a guide
And the moment that you came to change my life
(Looking back together yeah)
You fired up my heart and made me smile
And you and I know that
I'm a different person
Yeah
Turn my world around
I'm a different person
Yeah
Turn my world around
I'm a different person
Yeah
Turn my world around (world around)
Fears I had
All fading away by the minute and I
Feel alive
You untwisted all of my troubles inside
Like a little piece of heaven finally found
(Looking back together yeah)
You rebuilt my heart up from the ground
And you and I know baby
I'm a different person
Yeah
Turn my world around
I'm a different person
Yeah
Turn my world around (oh yeah yeah)
I'm a different person
Yeah
Turn my world around (yeah you turn my world around)
I'm a different person
Yeah
Turn my world around (world around, oh yeah yeah)
I'm yeah
I'm yeah
Oh you fired up my heart and made me smile
And you and I know baby
Turn my world around
Oh yeah yeah
I'm a different person
Yeah
Turn my world around (yeah you turn my world around)
I'm a different person (oh yeah yeah)
Yeah
Turn my world around
I'm a different person
Yeah
Turn my world around (world around, oh yeah yeah)
The Shapeshifters’ “Lola” is an uplifting dance track about finding love and being transformed for the better because of it. The lyrics begin with the singer reflecting on their past and acknowledging that they were walking around “in disguise” as a “lost soul” before they met their love interest. This partner becomes their guide and changes their life for the better. The chorus repeats the phrase “I’m a different person, turn my world around” three times, emphasizing how the relationship has transformed the singer’s life. The use of repetition in the chorus reinforces the idea that this transformation is a significant event in the singer’s life.
As the song continues, the singer describes how their fears began to fade away and how they felt alive again because of their partner’s influence. They use the metaphor of building something back up from the ground, depicting the idea of starting fresh with their new partner. Throughout the lyrics, the singer’s joy is evident, and the tone is celebratory. They conclude that their partner has fired up their heart and made them smile. The final chorus repeats the same lines as the previous chorus, with the only difference being the additional phrase, “Oh yeah yeah,” which is used to emphasize the happiness and satisfaction the singer feels.
Overall, the song can be interpreted as a tribute to the transformative powers of love. The lyrics convey the idea that real love can change a person’s life entirely for the better, freeing them from past trauma, and guiding them towards a better future, making them a different person.
