Shawn's voice varies widely standing out along with his rythym acoustical, electric guitar strokes. Shawn travels with his sound man and tour manager, Big Kip Conner.
Mullins's earlier work was influenced by acoustic and power-pop groups such as the Violent Femmes, The Producers and the Indigo Girls. However, his most significant and enduring influences are rock singer-songwriters like James Taylor and country musicians such as Kris Kristofferson.
He is known for playing many cover songs during his live performances, including "Copperhead Road" by Steve Earle as well as introducing some lighthearted, quirky elements into his song and stage elements.
Shawn Mullins released a new recording February, 2006, entitled "9th Ward Pickin Parlor."
In 2008, he released "Honeydew," which includes a new recording of the song "All in My Head" which was featured in an episode of "Scrubs." He supported Dar Williams on her Fall 2008 tour.

Mmm
Still don't know what I was waitin' for
And my time was runnin' wild
A million dead end streets and
Every time I thought I'd got it made
It seemed the taste was not so sweet
So I turned myself to face me
How the others must see the faker
I'm much too fast to take that test
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
Turn and face the strange
Ch-ch-changes
Don't want to be a richer man
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
Turn and face the strange
Ch-ch-changes
Just gonna have to be a different man
Time may change me
But I can't trace time
Mmm, yeah I watch the ripples change their size
But never leave the stream
Of warm impermanence
So the days float through my eyes
But still the days seem the same
And these children that you spit on
As they try to change their worlds
Are immune to your consultations
They're quite aware of what they're goin' through
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
Turn and face the strange
Ch-ch-changes
Don't tell them to grow up and out of it
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
Turn and face the strange
Ch-ch-changes
Where's your shame?
You've left us up to our necks in it
Time may change me
But you can't trace time
Strange fascination, fascinatin'
Ah, changes are takin'
The pace I'm goin' through
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
Turn and face the strange
Ch-ch-changes
Oh, look out you rock 'n' rollers
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
Turn and face the strange
Ch-ch-changes
Pretty soon now you're gonna get older
Time may change me
But I can't trace time I said that time may change me
But I can't trace time
"Changes" is a song by David Bowie, and Shawn Mullins covered the song for his album "Light You Up" in 2010. The song is a reflection on the changes in life and how they can be challenging but ultimately necessary. The opening lyrics suggest a feeling of emptiness or uncertainty, as the singer admits that he "still don't know what [he] was waitin' for" and that his "time was runnin' wild." The following lines describe a sense of frustration with life's limitations, with "a million dead end streets" and disappointment when success is achieved, but the "taste was not so sweet."
The chorus, with the repeated "ch-ch-ch-ch-changes, turn and face the strange," encourages listeners to embrace change rather than resist it. The line "don't want to be a richer man" suggests that the changes Bowie is encouraging are not necessarily material or financial, but rather personal and spiritual growth. The second verse speaks more broadly to how people resist change and discourage those who are trying to better themselves. The phrase "warm impermanence" suggests a bittersweet acceptance of the fleeting nature of life.
Overall, the song is a call to accept change and embrace growth, even in the face of uncertainty and discomfort.
