I've lived a messed up life, (SA, homelessness, drug addiction, prostitution, abduction, etc.) I've been free from that for nearly a decade now, and I am not easily triggered. As I consider myself lucky as hell. I've always watched true crime, mostly for the psychological aspects. And to remind myself that as bad as it gets, to be grateful I'm still here. That's why I continue to consume this type of content. I've seen far "worse" cases, and I've never been outwardly affected. But that 911 call, and the image of the bucket in the bathroom gave me a genuine panic attack. I turned to my boyfriend and said "I'm scared". I watched the whole video after calming down, and I was fine. But yes, this hit differently for me than anything has. And I don't know what it is exactly that made it so tolling. I started crying out loud. I don't know why I'm writing this, I just am surprised by my reaction I guess... There was something in that call that really hit me like a truck. I was terrified. This was a new case to me, I'm glad I finished the video, and will be keeping up with any updates. My heart goes out to all victims and survivors... This showed me that maybe I do need some mental help. I don't know. Let me stop rambling. I hope everyone finds peace and can just stay safe and stay sound. There's always a better way *always*, than hurting yourself or others. Always. 💞🖤💞

Even the detectives in the field who were laughing and joking with Shawn while he was describing how he fell down the embankment while dragging a body is remarkable. Most likely all involved went home and showered to get the stench of this man away from them. I think some men get confused because men are really perverted, but in a more "direct" way? Like if a girl came up to me in the park in a trenchcoat and flashed me, I'd be thrilled. So maybe some guys expect women to react the same way if they do it too? I don't know a single woman that would say they're into that.

Clearly the guy in this video is way beyond that point, but a lot of stuff that perverted guys do to women is stuff that a gay man could very likely do to another man and get a positive response. In a way a lot of men wish women did give that sort of response. The point is though that in their way they're still being moral. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you? Well, if a chick just directly invited me to her place for sex I'd be stoked (I may not actually agree to that, but that's kind of the fantasy we have when walking around looking at girls) so it's not really immoral to expect girls to feel the same. It's ignorant, because life experience should show that women don't respond well to that.

Man, that 911 call was so intense, especially when the taser went off and he woke up. My heart sunk and I kept thinkin, "please be ok. Tell me she was able to get out and is safe". Finally hearing the cops telling her to come out was such a relief. @fátima 🦋 Yeah, but I think the operator kinda has to do that, keep the conversation going, to make sure she's still there, she's responsive, the situation isn't changing, they aren't on the move etc. At first it was weird to me when the operator asked if the house she was in was owned by the abductor, but then I thought that it probably makes indentifying him easier if he escapes before the police get there for example. A situation like that can change dramatically in seconds, so the more information the operator gets, the better, especially if it escalates or goes sideways. And the operator told her a few times that if she can't talk, she can put the phone down, just stay on the line.

Man, I really wonder what "Jane"'s history is like. She remained so calm even through the terrifying situation; she sounds like an incredibly smart, resourceful and tenacious woman. I really doubt many of us could actually, in reality, even grab his phone to call 911 on with him sleeping so near. It's more common (and frankly relatable) for people to freeze up and it's to her major credit that she was able to fight this hard against the fear. I hope one day she's able to speak on it publicly, though I obviously understand this being the last thing she ever wants to talk about. But from what little we hear in the 911 call, I really think she ended up being alright (as much as anyone could be after shit like this). At least I hope so. This case is one that's always stuck with me.

Just as others here have commented, I too, have endless amounts of respect for 'Jane'. Her courage, composure and inner strength are beyond admirable.
It can only be hoped that wherever she is now, she's happy, or as close to happy as she can get.

Also, it can't be understated how much respect Detective Kim Mager is due. Her excellent use of understanding and empathy provided not just Jane with justice, but his other victims, too.

Dispatch calls always annoy people because they are heavily edited to present a situation quickly and then get to the real story.
In this case, where Jane Doe was and how it unraveled are crucial to the story. EWU does a good job.

The female detective here is phenomenal. She built up such trust with this pos that he felt so comfortable and opened up confessing to it all. She reminds me of Jim Smith who interrogated Russell Williams and got a confession from him. Being kind and non- judgmental to these fiends must be extraordinarily difficult, but it works in many cases. I’d imagine this technique is the most successful in obtaining confessions from narcissistic criminals like this guy. She’s is really, really good at her job to say the least. I’d love to see other interrogations she’s done.

For the people saying that the operator is asking too many questions, they are trying to figure out what equipment and personnel is necessary to send to the location. They asked if Jane was hurt or bleeding to see if she needed an ambulance sent and asked if he had a weapon to see if they need things like bulletproof vests or armor in general. They are also stalling to keep them on the line so they can communicate to police officers about what is happening inside the household.

The audio in this interrogation is so good I can hear someone's heartbeat! I'm assuming it's Detective Majors because it's so calm. It's pretty impressive for what she's doing and the sick monster sitting in front of her. She did such an amazing job with him and stayed calm the whole time. It's heartbreaking the disdain people have for people that were close to them who have had drug addictions. Drug addiction isn't easy and there are people who are more predisposed to developing an addiction. They blame them and their drug habits for their death, rather than the guy who confesses to it. I totally understand this dispatcher is doing their job but i really wish she wouldve been a bit more compassionate telling her "i understand youre trying to be quiet, youre doing really good" or "i have officers on the way dont worry, i just have a few more questions for you" like she wasnt trying to support her in a very terrifying situation and honestly Jane was doing a really amazing job giving descriptions of the house layout, i wish the dispatcher wouldve told her that.
