Cry For Help
Shed Seven Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

And it really hurts when I'm thinking about you
My bet is you feel the same
And it just gets worse
All these promises were cruel
But my bet is you will remain

Did I ever tell you that you shook me to the bone
When all you did was be yourself
Have I ever told you
That you move the world I'm on
And this is my cry for help

And it really hurts when I'm thinking about you
And I'm still crying from the pain
And it only goes to show that I already know
That I, yeah I guess you will remain

Did I ever tell you that you shook me to the bone
When all you did was be yourself
Have I ever told you
That you move the world I'm on
And this is my cry for help
And this is my cry for help

And it really hurts when I'm thinking about you
And that don't sit too good with me
And it just gets worse
All them promises so cruel
But my bet is you will remain

Did I ever tell you that you brought me to my knees
When all you did was be yourself
Have I ever told you
That you made my whole world bleed
And this is my cry for help
And this is my cry for help

And it really hurts when I'm thinking about you
But my bet is you will remain
And this is my cry for help
And this is my cry for help
This is me crying
And this is my cry for help

This is me crying
This is me dying

Overall Meaning

The Shed Seven's song "Cry For Help" is a powerful track that showcases the vulnerability and pain associated with a lost love. The song is an emotional plea for someone to come to the rescue of the singer, to save him from the agony and heartache he feels. The opening lines "And it really hurts when I'm thinking about you, My bet is you feel the same" sets the tone for the song as one of unrequited love. It's a cry for help, a plea for someone to understand; to help him through the pain and to be there.

As the chorus begins, the lyrics become more intense, "Did I ever tell you that you shook me to the bone, When all you did was be yourself, Have I ever told you that you move the world I'm on?" The singer tells their ex just how powerful they were towards his life, and how they are lost without them. The chorus is repeated several times, each time with more intensity, as though the singer is desperate to convince their ex that they need them in their lives. The closing lines, "This is me crying, this is me dying," is a poignant reminder of the depth of the singer’s pain.

One of the most underrated bands of all time in my opinion...coming from Manchester we followed the music scene there...from The Buzz Cocks and New Order through to The Smiths, James, The Roses and Oasis etc. Especially when we were travelling to the footy...Shed Seven were always part of the play list and we went to see them on many occasions, A great York outfit whose music and lyrics stand up to any band of the past 30 years and excellent live...keep it up guys !!

I've just finished editing it and Rick has confirmed he is very happy with it, so keep your eyes out for the album and if all goes as planned, the Wittercism documantary will be added as a free DVD with the album. I can also state that I've obviously heard the finished album and I reckon you are gonna love it. Aarkid
