Born on the 14th March 1965, as a teenager she formed the band Monsoon, and created a fusion of Western and Indian pop styles. She married Steve Coe, who became the band's producer, and along with Martin Smith, the band became a trio. They made a single album, Third Eye, in 1982, from which they had a surprise hit single "Ever So Lonely". However, resenting pressure from their record company over musical direction, Monsoon as a band dissolved and Coe and Smith set about promoting Chandra as a solo artist on an independent label.
Chandra went on to release a number of albums in the 1980s, experimenting with her voice as an instrument. In the 1990s she released three albums on Peter Gabriel's Real World label, although Martin Smith ceased to be actively involved.
In 1996 she provided vocals for a cover of Prodigy's hit "Smack My Bitch Up". In 2002 she performed the song "Breath of Life" with Howard Shore for the Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers soundtrack.
She is no longer able to record, having developed "burned mouth syndrome" in 2010, which makes speech and singing so painful that she is effectively mute.
All You Want Is More

I Give you the message
I tell you the score
I take down the answer
Who could ask for more?
I live for the moment
I ask you for nothing
But all you want is more
In Sheila Chandra's song, "All You Want Is More," the singer tells us that no matter what she does, it is never enough for the person she is addressing. She gives them the message, tells them the score, and takes down the answer, yet they still want more. The line "My window's a door," implies that she is open to new experiences and opportunities, but it seems like the person she is addressing is not satisfied with what she has to offer.
The song speaks to the idea of human greed and how it is never satisfied. It highlights the pressure that people sometimes face to constantly give more of themselves, despite their limitations. The haunting melody and Sheila Chandra's unique vocal style add to the sombre mood of the track, highlighting the frustration and exhaustion of trying to please someone who is never content.
Overall, "All You Want Is More" is a poignant commentary on the never-ending cycle of wanting and needing more, rather than finding contentment in what we already have.
