Next to You Next to Me
Shenandoah Lyrics

Ya better get ready cause I'm pickin' you up
With a full moon a shinin' and a little bit a luck
We'll run out outta gas and maybe get stuck
We could get lost baby I don't care
I ain't worried as long as you're there
There ain't no place that I'd rather be
Next to sittin' next to me
Next to you, next to me
Barbecue chicken in aluminum foil
Just enough money for my gas and oil
Who needs your shrimp and your caviar?
I'd sooner have you just the way you are
Rich people got their money to hold
Mansion on the hill 'n' diamonds and gold
Well, it can't compare as far as I can see
Next to sittin' next to me
There ain't no place that I'd rather be
Next to you, next to me
Radio playin' our favorite song
I'll change the station if the news comes on
When the signal ain't comin' in too strong
We'll make our music honey all night long
If the Good Lord's willin' when we're old and gray
The kids are grown up and moved away
We'll be rocking' here side by side
With the BBQ chicken and the TV guide
There ain't no place that I'd rather be
Next to you, next to me
There ain't no place that I'd rather be
Next to you, next to me
There ain't no place that I'd rather be
Next to you, next to me
Next to you, next to me
Next to you, next to me
Next to you, next to me
Next to you, next to me
The lyrics to Shenandoah's "Next to You Next to Me" paint a picture of a happy couple taking a road trip together. The song is a celebration of love, simplicity, and living in the moment. The opening lines describe the singer's excitement at picking up their partner for a drive on a full moonlit night. The couple may run out of gas or get lost, but the singer is content as long as they have their partner next to them. The chorus repeats the sentiment that there's no place the singer would rather be than next to their partner.
The second verse emphasizes the beauty of a simple life, with the singer skipping fancy meals like shrimp and caviar in favor of barbecue chicken in aluminum foil. The lyrics reject the notion that money or material possessions bring happiness, declaring that they "can't compare" to the joy of being close to the one you love.
The final verse looks towards the future, imagining the couple growing old together, side by side, with their children grown and gone. Even in old age and without distractions, the singer knows that the best place to be is next to their beloved.
Overall, "Next to You Next to Me" is a sweet and uplifting song about love, companionship, and happiness in the present.

Thatβs awesome Wayne! Iβm originally from Nashville and sad to say, my former city killed Country Music! Itβs now beyond awful. Itβs all about βsex appealβ. Iβm very disappointed to say the least.
