The song “Piano” by Shervin Hajipour is about two friends who grew up together, one of them became a pianist while the other became a guitarist. The song explores the different paths they took in life and how they remain connected through music. The lyrics describe how the pianist had a natural talent for playing the piano since they were young, and the singer of the song always admired and listened to them practice at night. As they grew older, the pianist went to music school while the singer saved up money to buy a guitar and played in cafes. They remained close until the pianist stopped acknowledging the singer, and the latter was left questioning the reason.
The lyrics also express the singer's emotions of feeling left behind while recognizing the pianist's talents, and the guitarist's more humble beginnings. The singer acknowledges their own struggles and setbacks in comparison to the pianist, but still maintains their love and appreciation for music regardless of their different paths. The song ends with a sense of longing and a plea to the pianist to remember their friendship and music.
Overall, “Piano” is a touching and poetic exploration of the complexities of human relationships and how music can connect people in different ways.

For now, I am stuck with my guitar because
Life owes me a piano
How lucky you are with your dreams under your pillow
Life has been simple for you
Your job has been easy, and there have been no challenges, my hands and feet are cut from the road's blade
Promise me you won't sing about pain, because the pain of that part of the city hasn't even touched your eyes
Let the pain of mine that I wrote down remain

"Piano" [A Translation]
Coming into the world
You opened your eyes
And found the pedals of a piano
Under your feet
Mother played you
Pieces by Bach & Chopin
And I stood
By my window
In my room
And listened
To you playing
Your piano at night
And dreamt
That one day
They will give
Your piano
To me
We grew up
And you went off
To study music
And I saved up
My pocket money
Over the years
And bought
A used guitar
At the fairs
I used to sing
To folks at cafes
Singing of earth, dust
And these moments
Till one day, you came back home
And did not even cast a glance my way
~~~
You, the epitome of the artist
And I, a symbol of banality
You, all excellence
And I, the lowest of the low
I never ventured to ask you
The why of it?
I could never ask you for more
Speak to me of the heavens,
You who has wisdom
I am but of this earth
Forget me, friend
I am the one holding
These strings of bondage
Yet it owes me in return
A piano-filled life
~~~
Lucky you
Your dreams
Safely tucked away
Under your pillow
With life's ups & downs
Turning ever so gently
With neither a snag in your plans
Nor challenges
I have instead
Been bloodied
On my way
By its thorns
Promise me, to never sing of pain
For pain belongs to that part of town
That your eyes have never looked upon
Leave that one for me
I who wrote
All my poems of love
For you
~~~
You, the epitome of the artist
And I, a symbol of banality
You, all excellence
And I, the lowest of the low
I never ventured to ask you
The why of it?
I could never ask you for more
Speak to me of the heavens,
I am but of this earth
I am the one holding
These strings of bondage
Yet it owes me in return
