Chad Petree and Jeremy Dawson grew up in Oklahoma and were involved in previous music projects together, including the soundtrack for the videogame Grand Theft Auto III in 2000 and Cloud2Ground. After relocating to Los Angeles, California in 2004, the two recruited vocalist Carah Faye Charnow and drummer Mikey Martin.
Their debut album, We Are Pilots was originally released in January 2005, though versions of the album featuring different cover art and tracklisting would be released later the following year. Three singles were issued: "Le Disko", "You Are the One" and "Rainy Monday". We Are Pilots received a Grammy Award nomination on 6 December 2007 in the category of Best Electronic/Dance Album, but lost to The Chemical Brothers.
The band's second studio album, Season of Poison, was released on 4th November 2008, with Sisely Treasure as vocalist. They have released two singles from their second album: "Ghost Town" and "Ricochet!".
In 2009, Shiny Toy Guns released "Major Tom", a Peter Schilling cover.
In 2011, Carah Faye Charnow returned to Shiny Toy Guns. In addition, Daniel Johansson also joined the band on guitar, synth and bass. In March 2011, the band released a new single "The Sun", available to download for free.

Finale / Reprise
Shiny Toy Guns Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
He's all right, let's shout, make a fuss, scream it out
Jack is back now, everyone sing in our town of Halloween
What's this? What's this I haven't got a clue?
What it's completely new, must be a Christmas thing
It's really very strange, this is Halloween, this is Halloween
Where we can gaze into the stars and sit together now and forever
For it is plain as anyone can see we're simply meant to be
The first verse of the song "Finale/Reprise" by Shiny Toy Guns talks about a character named Jack, who is now back and everything is alright. The lyrics invite everyone to shout and scream in excitement as Jack has returned. The phrase "our town of Halloween" references the setting of the story in the film "The Nightmare Before Christmas". The lines "What's this? What's this I haven't got a clue?" comes from the first song of the movie and points to the characters' surprise in discovering the holiday of Christmas. The third line "What it's completely new, must be a Christmas thing" playfully juxtaposes Halloween with Christmas, both being holidays with completely different atmospheres. The fourth line "It's really very strange, this is Halloween, this is Halloween" continues the playful comparisons between the two holidays.
The second verse of "Finale/Reprise" features the character Sally expressing her desire to be with Jack forever. The lyrics express a love that is infinite and timeless, as they will sit and gaze into the stars without a worry in the world. The last line "For it is plain as anyone can see we're simply meant to be" portrays the inevitability of their relationship and their perfect fit for each other.
Overall, "Finale/Reprise" embraces the chaotic and whimsical atmosphere of "The Nightmare Before Christmas". The lyrics capture the playful and imaginative themes of the movie, while highlighting the importance of love and companionship.
