Chad Petree and Jeremy Dawson grew up in Oklahoma and were involved in previous music projects together, including the soundtrack for the videogame Grand Theft Auto III in 2000 and Cloud2Ground. After relocating to Los Angeles, California in 2004, the two recruited vocalist Carah Faye Charnow and drummer Mikey Martin.
Their debut album, We Are Pilots was originally released in January 2005, though versions of the album featuring different cover art and tracklisting would be released later the following year. Three singles were issued: "Le Disko", "You Are the One" and "Rainy Monday". We Are Pilots received a Grammy Award nomination on 6 December 2007 in the category of Best Electronic/Dance Album, but lost to The Chemical Brothers.
The band's second studio album, Season of Poison, was released on 4th November 2008, with Sisely Treasure as vocalist. They have released two singles from their second album: "Ghost Town" and "Ricochet!".
In 2009, Shiny Toy Guns released "Major Tom", a Peter Schilling cover.
In 2011, Carah Faye Charnow returned to Shiny Toy Guns. In addition, Daniel Johansson also joined the band on guitar, synth and bass. In March 2011, the band released a new single "The Sun", available to download for free.
In May 2012 the band announced that Daniel Johansson left the band.

Since you took your love away
I go out every night and sleep all day
Since you took your love away
Since you took your love away
Since you took your love
Since you've been gone I can do whatever I want
But nothing, nothing can take away these blues
Nothing can take away these blues
It's been so lonely without you here
I'm like a bird without a song
Nothing can stop this lonely rain from falling
Tell me baby, where did I go wrong?
Where did I, where did I go wrong?
I went to the doctor, and guess what he told me
Guess what he told me
He said girl you better learn to have fun no matter what you do
He's a fool
Nothing compares (no)
Nothing compares
Nothing
Nothing compares to you
Nothing compares, nothing compares to you
No
All the flowers that you planted, mama
In the backyard all died when you went away
Yeah
I know that living with me baby
Was sometimes hard, sometimes hard
But I'm willing, I'm willing to give it another try
Nothing compares, nothing compares, no
Nothing compares, nothing compares to you, no
Nothing compares, nothing compares to you, no
The lyrics of Shiny Toy Guns's song "Nothing Compares 2 U" express the devastating pain and emptiness one experiences after losing someone they deeply loved. The opening line paints a picture of the precise period of time that has transpired since the breakup, highlighting the agony and sense of loss that have been haunting the singer. The following two lines discuss how the singer has been coping with the aftermath of losing the love they once had, isolating themselves from the rest of the world, they have developed depression that makes them avoid the daylight, staying up all night and sleeping in the daytime. The next verse talks about how even though the singer has all the freedom to do whatever they want, from seeing whomever they want, to having fun, they still feel like they are missing something, with these words, they imply that there is no substitute for the love they once had.
The chorus, "Nothing compares, nothing compares to you," repeats the theme of losing something dear to oneself and how it is almost impossible to move on without that special someone, and the following lines talk about how what they had with their lost love was much more precious than anything, and it is impossible to replace them. The verses relay a message that their longing for their love will never fade, as expressed in the lines, "All the flowers that you planted, mama, in the backyard all died when you went away."

She is the only singer to ever send shivers down my spine. Just wait till the chorus hits... I don't know what it is about her voice. Without a doubt the most underrated singer out there.

This cover came free on an old offbrand mp3 player I had as a tween. I just now remembered it and spent hours trying to find this specific cover.
