Till
Shirley Bassey Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

'Til the moon deserts the sky
'Til all the seas run dry
'Til then I'll worship you
'Til the tropic sun grows (turns) cold
'Til this young world grows old

My darling, I'll adore you
You are my reason to live
All I own I would give
Just to have you adore me

'Til the rivers flow upstream
'Til lovers cease to dream
'Til then I'm yours, be mine

You are my reason to live
All I own I would give
Just to have you adore me

'Til the rivers flow upstream

'Til lovers cease to dream
'Til then I'm yours, be mine

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Shirley Bassey's song "Till" express a deep, long-lasting love that will endure even until the end of time. The opening lines set the tone for the whole song, as the singer says they will love their partner "til the moon deserts the sky" and "til all the seas run dry." They are expressing their commitment to loving their partner forever, no matter what trials come their way.

The singer goes on to say that their partner is their reason to live, and they would give everything they have just to be adored by them. The repetition of this sentiment emphasizes just how important their partner is to them. Even if the world were to change, and the rivers flowed upstream and lovers stopped dreaming, the singer would still love their partner just as much.

Overall, "Till" is a powerful love song that speaks to the enduring nature of true love. The lyrics are full of vivid imagery and romantic sentiment, making it a classic in the world of love songs.

She is unique, there has been no one like her in the past 50 years. I first heard her singing in 1971 while living overseas and she has been my No. 1 ever since. The Mariah Carey and BeyoncƩ of this world can go back home.

Dorothy Squires gave us first that Welsh style of singing.

There's good, there's great, there's incredible, there's phenomenal, then there's Bassey. It's all flawless - - her power, vibrato, pitch, resonance, projection, breath control, articualtion, and stage command. There's nothing to criticize. She is the ultimate criterion for perfection. There simply will never be another Dame Shirley!
