Kids
Short Skirts Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We met by the bike she'd
Her name I forgot
But her eyes were blue
And her bike was red
Gymnastics first and my bag's on the lot

Oh, Sam's bringing me down
I've learned a lot
He picks on my nose and he
Calls me a clown

If I only knew your name
Only knew your name
Only knew your name
Girl, Girl what's your name

If I only knew your name
Only knew your name
Only knew your name
Girl, Girl what's your name

Second grade's the worst
I don't wanna go
Now, Sam's a jerk
I hate him so

All I want is his girl
Cause her bike is red
We meet after school
We meet, meet by the bike she'd
We meet after school
We meet, meet by the bike she'd
We meet after school
We meet, meet by the bike she'd

If I only knew your name
Only knew your name
Only knew your name
Girl, Girl what's your name

If I only knew your name
Only knew your name

Only knew your name
Girl, Girl what's your name

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Short Skirts' song "Kids" seem to be told from the perspective of a young boy who has a crush on a girl he met at school. He doesn't know her name, and refers to her as "Girl." He describes meeting her by her red bike after gymnastics class, and seems to be jealous of a boy named Sam who is picking on him and "bringing him down."

The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "If I only knew your name, girl, girl what's your name?" as the boy yearns to learn more about this mysterious girl who he is infatuated with. He goes on to describe how he hates going to school because of Sam's bullying, but how he still looks forward to seeing the girl by her red bike after class.

The song captures the innocence and excitement of childhood crushes, and the longing to know more about someone who catches your eye.

Overall, the lyrics of "Kids" are simple and straightforward, but they capture a relatable feeling that many people can remember from their own childhood experiences.

You'd think a written warning and a copy of the dress code sent to the parents would be enough, going to all the trouble of buying a variety of sizes of clothes to wear as some form of public shaming is slightly odd.

@paullandry5594

Why do those bastard people who are in some kind of authority give themselves more power than they really have and just invent new rules on the fly? They seriously need to take a chill pill and get a life as the girl does. Poor thing!

@ameteuraspirant

that doesn't even look inappropriately short, I dunno what those teachers' problems are.

@ariannaishappy2281

I wore a skirt like that and the same thing happened to me....Im still gonna wear skirts because I love them and think they're pretty. Schools shouldn't treat anybody like this. If you aren't showing your private parts you aren't doing anything "inappropriate"

@jamesanderson5554

Honey, if you want to show your private parts, that's between you and the lucky people you're showing them to! There are more important things to be concerned with than if you're showing your private parts or not. To most, it's a turn on to show what they have and there is nothing wrong with that. Indecent exposure be damned!!!

@InformingChristians

I would have been very upset if that happened to a daughter of mine. --And there was NOTHING wrong with that skirt.

Pull your kids out and home school them. Public school abuse is one of the reasons that I was so happy my daughters NEVER went to a public school.

If you people went to Oakleaf you'd understand the situation a lot better. The dress code violation does not only apply to girls, it also applies to boy. If boy shorts are sagging, dress code. If boy's shorts are to short, (yes, they actually wear short shorts) dress code. And if they wear tank tops, dress code. Oakleaf may be enforce dress code heavily but only because if they didn't girls would be wear almost nothing to school.

Miranda for one is being a cry baby because Oakleaf is a school filled with the most students in Clay County, so there was at least 20 others kids with dress code. Also, on the first or maybe even the second day of school, you get a sheet going over the code of conduct. You read it IN CLASS, and then take it home to get it sign. If she wasn't listening in class, her fault. Especially if you're the new kid, the first thing you should've done was read dress code.. So, Miranda, suck it up. This is high school and no one cares.

@jamesanderson5554

It does not matter if this beautiful girl goes to school naked, it should be her right!!!

@JamesPlaysGames95

if they have a dress code rule, fair enough, but i dont think embarrassing the person should be a punishment

@pandaphil

She's being forced to live in Florida. Hasn't this poor girl suffered enough?
