Blue Ice
Shout Out Louds Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It hurts when I breathe
It hurts when I speak
You want everything I own
Everything you wanted

I keep running away, running away, running away
You keep fading away, fading away, fading away
It always ends in the same way
The sun gets in your eyes
I won't be surprised that next time

These blue eyes came out of the blue
Out of the blue, blue, blue

It never gets old
It never changes
Does it
Airport to city
The moment is breaking my promise
So I keep drifting away, drifting away, drifting away
And you keep fading away, fading away, fading away
It always ends the same way
The sun gets in your eyes
I won't be surprised the next time

But these blue eyes came out of the blue
Blue, blue, blue

It hurts when I breath
It hurts when I speak
Still want it
Everything I own
Everything you wanted

I keep running away, running away, running away
You keep fading away, fading away, fading away

It always ends the same way
The sun gets in your eyes
I won't be surprised the next time

But these blue eyes
It always ends in the same way
The sun gets in your eyes

But these blue eyes came out of the blue

Out of the blue, blue, blue
Blue, blue, blue

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Shout Out Louds’s song “Blue Ice” convey a sense of loss and longing. The opening lines “It hurts when I breathe, It hurts when I speak” suggest that the singer is in pain, possibly because he is struggling to express his emotions. The following lines “You want everything I own, Everything you wanted” indicate that someone or something is making the singer feel vulnerable, as though he is being taken advantage of.

The chorus “It always ends in the same way, The sun gets in your eyes” suggests that the singer is resigned to a particular outcome, as though something in his life is predetermined. However, the line “These blue eyes came out of the blue” implies that there is still room for surprise and unexpected revelations in his life.

The third stanza “It never gets old, It never changes, Does it, Airport to city” seems to convey a sense of ennui, as though the singer is stuck in a repetitive cycle. The final lines of the song “But these blue eyes came out of the blue, Blue, blue, blue” suggest that there is still some hope for the future, as though the singer is waiting for something or someone unexpected to appear and change his life.

Shout Out Louds have always seemed to be that little band that could but I could never find anyone that knew about them! I remember when their first album came out and they've been great ever since! I'm glad they're starting to get some recognition. This reminds me of The Police! I really dig it! It's a more lush and fuller sound than they've ever done. Looking forward to the Full Length of Album 4!! Now if ppl would start giving French Kicks some love all would be well with the world!!

@Tikimasters

I'm so happy that this band is still alive and kicking. One of the remaining few of my favorite bands from adolescence.

Heard this tonight on WEHM in NY.."New Music Tuesdays"....the joy is that this music is being made *today*....I'm happy to be living in these times. Lovely visuals to highlight the sound. Much gratitude to this band and this posting...and to EHM!

I think the best time I ever had listening to this song was early one Winter morning when it was bit nippy and I was still tired. Very surrealistic experience.
