I said Chatterbox
I said ya squalk a lot
C'mon gimma some lips
Yeah Chatterbox

I call you up
Don't give me no line
I'm comin in your home
On the chatterline

All dressed up
I got nowhere to go
Seems like fun night
On the telephone

Said Chatterbox
I said ya squalk a lot
C'mon gimma some lips
Yeah Chatterbox

C'mon c'mon c'mon
Yeah Chatterbox
C'mon c'mon c'mon
Yeah Chatterbox

I said Chatterbox

I said Chatterbox
I said ya squalk a lot
C'mon gimma some lips
Yeah Chatterbox

Call you up
Don't give me no line
I'm comin in your home
On the telephone

All dressed up
I got nowhere to go
Seems like fun night
On the telephone

I said Chatterbox
I said ya squalk a lot
C'mon gimma some lips
Yeah Chatterbox

C'mon c'mon c'mon
Yeah Chatterbox
C'mon c'mon c'mon
Yeah Chatterbox

I said Chatterbox

Overall Meaning

The song Chatterbox by Sid Vicious was released in 1979, after his death. It is a short, straightforward song that speaks about a girl who constantly talks on the phone, who Sid calls the "Chatterbox". Sid tries to get her attention and ask her out but doesn't seem to be successful. He repeatedly asks her to "gimme some lips" and give him a chance. He is literally waiting by the phone, however, he is left with no answer from the girl who is constantly talking on the phone. Sid's frustration is retained in his lyrics and is clearly audible in his voice, reflecting the reality that many of us go through when trying to talk to someone who is always busy with other things.

The song itself is musically not very complex, with repetitive guitar riffs, and a simple drumbeat. It has been argued that this song's simplicity reflects Sid's state of mind at that particular time. However, despite its simplicity, the song's lyrics highlight the sombre state Sid was going through before he passed on. Instead of focusing on his personal demons, Sid instead writes about his frustration due to the Chatterbox's indifference, which can be interpreted as a reflection of him being unable to attract Nancy Spungen's attention.
