Red Light Pledge
Silverstein Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The ending's the same,
Past mistakes that you made
Come back to haunt you.
I made a mistake;
I wish I could take back everything that I did.
I wanted to tell you,
I really did.
But how do I explain this?
Promise me you will be there
Until the red light will change.
I would wait forever.

Promise me you will stay here
Until the darkness will fade, I'd wait for you.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Silverstein's song Red Light Pledge are, on the surface, about regret and wanting redemption. The first two lines, "The ending's the same, past mistakes that you made come back to haunt you," set the tone for the song. The character singing the song is reflecting on their past mistakes and wishing they could take back everything they did. They then express their desire to tell someone about their mistakes, but feeling unable to explain themselves. The chorus then comes in with the plea for the person they want to talk to, to wait for them. "Promise me you will be there until the red light will change. I would wait forever. Promise me you will stay here until the darkness will fade, I'd wait for you." This is the crux of the song - the character is asking for someone to have faith in them, even though they've messed up in the past.

The song can be interpreted in a number of ways, but the underlying message seems to be about the importance of second chances. The character singing the song is acknowledging their past mistakes, but they're also willing to wait forever to make things right. The use of the red light and the darkness add to this sense of urgency - the character wants to make amends before it's too late. There's also a sense of vulnerability in the song - the character is showing their flaws and asking for help.

Overall, the lyrics to Silverstein's song Red Light Pledge are a heartfelt plea for redemption and forgiveness. They touch on themes of regret, second chances, and vulnerability, and illustrate the power of asking for help.

R.I.P to my old highchool friend Steve.....He was the one who got me into this album and emo/screamo in general. I'll never forget playing Halo and listening to this album front to back with him. I hope he's still listening somewhere. Thanks Steve for opening my ears at a young age. Hope you're in a better place <3

I am now 30 years old as of 2 weeks ago. I was given this album in 2005 when I was in 6th grade and this band's first couple albums (When Broken is easily Fixed and Discovering the Waterfront) got me through so much during my teens! I played those 2 albums more than anything for a few years.
