An alternate version of the song, with a length of 7:27, was played on XMU before the shorter version was played on FM and other XM channels. This version was featured on their demo CD (which featured early versions of four tracks).
Music video
The music video for "Lazy Eye" was directed by Suzie Vlcek, who directed the band's "Kissing Families" video as well as the video for Tegan and Sara's "The Con". It was produced by Eric Morgan. The music video is said to be a take on the 1970 Swedish film 'A Swedish Love Story'.
It takes place in a club, possibly in the 1970s or 1980s judging by the hairstyles and clothing, brimming with teenagers dancing to the song as the band plays live on stage. The video alternates between the band playing, and a young girl with short hair.
The girl notices a boy that shows up, she first ignores him and dances with another guy, notably when the song takes an angrier tone. The boy leaves, and waits outside, talking with friends. The girl eventually leaves the club, and sees him outside waiting, just like she waited for him. This reveals to her that he really does care about her, and they leave in good temper.
Former band member Jack Kennedy also makes an appearance as the bartender.
The video received airplay from MTV, VH1, Fuse, MTVU, and International Music Feed.

Lazy Eye
Silversun Pickups Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I've been waiting for this moment all my life
But it's not quite right
And this real
It's impossible, if possible at whose blind word
So clear, but so unheard
I've been waiting
It's just a matter of time
To appear sad
With the same old decent lazy eye fixed to rest on you
Aim free was so untrue
Everyone's so intimately rearranged
Everyone's so focused, clearly with such shine
Everyone's so intimately rearranged
Everyone's so focused, clearly with such shine
Locked and loaded
Still the same old decent lazy eye straight through your gaze
That's why I said I relate
I said we relate
It's so fun to relate
It's the room, the sun, and the sky
The room, the sun, and the sky
I've been waiting
I've been waiting for this moment
The lyrics to Silversun Pickups' song "Lazy Eye" express a feeling of anticipation for a moment that has been long-awaited but is ultimately flawed. The singer has been waiting for this moment all their life, yet it's not quite right. The line "And this real, it's impossible, if possible at whose blind word, so clear but so unheard" suggests a sense of frustration with the reality of the situation not meeting their expectations, and wondering who is responsible for this.
The song continues to express a desire to be melancholic, represented by the line "It's just a matter of time to appear sad," but this sadness is juxtaposed with a sense of freedom represented by "Aim free was so untrue." The chorus then shifts the focus to the people around the singer, suggesting that everyone has rearranged themselves intimately, and are focused with such shine. However, the same old decent lazy eye remains fixed on the person the singer is addressing.
