Paying homage to Genesis with his recent cover of their 1982 song "Keep it Dark", Simon Collins embraces his heritage and carries the torch. Having recently signed to top US indie label, Razor & Tie, his U.S. debut album titled "U-Catastrophe" received an August 19, 2008 iTunes-only release. It will be available in stores on September 30, 2008. Simon has followed his famous father into the pop charts by debuting his new single, "Unconditional" at the #30 spot on the Billboard AC chart.
Pride

When we're left with nothing
Too strong to break with muscle
Beyond any pain or suffering
A soul's redemption
To face the fear of rejection
The last reserve for being
A life without doesn't have any meaning
Don't be afraid to show that you have pride
Forced into the molding
Just another s.i.n. number
Afraid to break the iceing
Around your soul's slumber
There's more to life than what I see here
Don't be afraid to show that you can fly
The lyrics to Simon Collins's song Pride seem to celebrate the human spirit's ability to endure through tough times by finding the strength within ourselves to keep on going. The first line, "Pride is all we have now" suggests that when everything else crumbles around us, our pride is a source of resilience that remains. The idea is reinforced in the line "too strong to break with muscle", which suggests that this kind of inner strength is not one we can build up through physical training, but rather comes from within. In fact, the song seems to push back against the notion that pride can be crushed by external forces. The line "beyond any pain or suffering" seems to suggest a sense of invincibility that comes from the unbreakable nature of pride.
The chorus encourages the listener to embrace this sense of pride, to not "hide and stay protected" but to "show that you have pride". This message is aimed at those who may feel they need to "force themselves into the moulding" of societal norms or who feel trapped by their assigned "s.i.n. number" (likely a reference to the social insurance number assigned to individuals in Canada). Ultimately, the song suggests that by embracing one's pride, one can overcome societal barriers and potentially find a greater sense of purpose or meaning in life.
Ultimately, Pride is a song about resilience in the face of adversity. It uses the metaphor of pride as a source of inner strength to encourage listeners to embrace their true selves and push back against societal pressures that might try to mold them into something they're not. The chorus's call to "show that you have pride" is ultimately a call to action, encouraging listeners to stand tall and be proud of who they are, even in the face of adversity.

I totally remember this song by my son. He's a son of mine. Oh, I came here for help, oh I was looking for him.
(Didn't know he was a One Hit Wonder, and only in Germany. That's why this video is so rare.)
