Feeling thin, in my skin,
But I'm on my way, I'm on my way
Gone without, what it's about
But I'm on my way, I'm on my way

Think of all the times
That I've been through,
Hard shit but I didn't have you,
So hard to keep in line and I'm,
I'm free but doing time,
Don't know what your looking for,
Don't know what I've got in store,
But I'm on my way,
I'm on my way,

And I feel like she loves,
Loves me, loves me,
Not a care with these,
Grey skies above me,
Her love rains down on me,
And I feel home,
I feel at home,

Never thought I would be the one who,
Found someone to make me feel like you do,
It's true I dreamed of you,
An you came in right on cue,
Don't know what it's all about,

But I'm running like an open spout,
I'm on my way, I'm on my way

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Simplified's song "Home" convey a sense of emotional vulnerability and uncertainty, while also expressing a sense of direction and purpose. The first two lines of the chorus, "Feeling thin, in my skin, But I'm on my way, I'm on my way" suggest that the singer is feeling somewhat fragile or exposed, but is nevertheless moving forward with purpose. The following lines, "Gone without, what it's about, But I'm on my way, I'm on my way" further emphasize this sense of direction, implying that the singer is moving towards some as-yet-unknown goal, even though the path forward may not be entirely clear.

This emotional and thematic tone is echoed in the verses, where the singer reflects on past difficulties and challenges, noting that they have faced "hard shit" without the support of the person they are singing to. Throughout these reflections, there is an underlying sense of dissatisfaction, and a longing for something more. It is only when the singer sings, "And I feel like she loves, Loves me, loves me" that there is a sense of resolution or satisfaction. The final lines of the song, "Don't know what it's all about, But I'm running like an open spout, I'm on my way, I'm on my way" suggest that the singer is still moving forward, still unsure of their ultimate destination, but guided by a sense of purpose and direction.

Overall, then, "Home" is a powerful and emotionally resonant song that speaks to the human desire for connection, love, and purpose, while also conveying a sense of the difficulties and challenges that must be overcome on the road to self-discovery and fulfillment.

It's 2019, show these guys some Love!

Kerry W. Burd, Jr.

These guys rarely play anymore. I'm from Lake Norman, which was their home base, and they always put on a good show, even the acoustic 2 man stuff they did on the deck at the Rusty Rudder before it closed. When I think of how live music night life has died, these guys come to mind. It's not their fault. People got lazy and cheap. It was normal to pay a cover to go see a local act. Now with free video and music everywhere, that lack of respect to show up, enjoy the show, buy merch and leave happy is a thing of the past. (This song and "20 Years" are 2 of my favorites... all on Spotify).
