Romance
Sir Neville Marriner & Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

See these arms that were broken
How they held you so
Never once did they fail you
They won't let you go

We're just waiting, looking skyward
As the days come down
Someone promised there'd be answers
If we stayed around

Over decades, now this romance
Has sustained us all

Never questioned, only giving
What it made us for

Overall Meaning

"Romance" by Sir Neville Marriner & Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields is an instrumental piece that doesn't have any lyrics. However, it does enrapture listeners with its soaring melody and emotive orchestration. The song invokes a sense of longing and devotion. It feels like a romantic love letter expressed through music. The violin, in particular, is the primary instrument in this composition as it creates an ethereal and cinematic atmosphere.

The title of the song itself suggests a story of affection and passion, but the absence of lyrics makes it more open to interpretation. The title gives listeners the freedom to create their own images and feelings. The music guides the listener to a deeper place within themselves where they can connect with the so-called romance that is being portrayed.

In conclusion, "Romance" is a spellbinding composition that provides a platform for people to express their emotions and imagination. It is a testament to the power of music to move and touch our hearts, even without lyrics.

Romance for Violin and Orchestra No. 1 in G Major, Op. 40 is a work by Ludwig van Beethoven. The composition is based on a single movement marked « Adagio cantabile ». She constitutes an important preparation for his violin concerto. Beethoven's reputation as a pianist often obscures the fact that he was a very capable violinist. Although not an accomplished master, he possessed a profound love for and understanding of the instrument, evident in his ten violin sonatas, and numerous quintets, quartets, and other chamber works. This Romance is not imbued with sonata-form characteristics, but with rondo. The theme of the rondo is in two parts, each performed first by the soloist and then repeated by the orchestra, which is relegated to a purely accompanying role, creating unity by including figures from the rondo. The piece is illustrated in lyrical main themes which alternate with more extroverted sections. In both cases, the emphasis is on expressive grace, with development through embellishment and elaboration rather than motivic dissection. Lucien
