The band members bonded over a shared love of NZ music and a passion for making their own and formed after meeting at a Kora concert in 2006. Three members flatted together as Otago University students, spending countless hours in their "recording studio" (Eli Paewai's room) at 660 Castle St; hence the band name.
Six60's debut EP, released in 2008, features a track called "Someone to Be Around" that was left off their debut album but continues to be one of their most popular songs.
The band's self-titled debut album was released on 10 October 2011 on their own label Massive Entertainment. The album was produced and mixed by Tiki Taane and debuted at number one in the New Zealand charts and was certified gold within its first week of release. Their first two singles "Rise Up 2.0" and "Don't Forget Your Roots" reached number one and number two respectively on the RIANZ singles chart and were both certified double and triple platinum.
In 2018 the band won five Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards and were the most streamed artist by New Zealanders on Spotify. On 23 February 2019, Six60 became the first New Zealand band to play a sold-out concert at the Western Springs Stadium, to a crowd of 50,000 fans. On 24 April 2021, Six60 played the first concert at Auckland's Eden Park Stadium, to a crowd of 50,000 fans. It was the closing of the Six60 Saturdays country-wide tour and the largest concert of 2021.

It won't leave me alone
I've been desperately
Holding on, holding on
Changes
Oh, when did we become strangers?
I never saw it comin'
But you never let me, never let me go
Oh, it ain't no use
I can't get over you
Wherever we go, we can't run from our ghosts
Oh, it ain't no use
Can't keep hidin' from the truth, yeah
Wherever we go, we can't run from our ghosts
We're diggin' deeper now
So deep I don't know up from down
Searching for the moon
So we can pull them down
Pull them all down
Changes, uh
Oh, when did we become strangers?
I never saw it comin'
I thought in time I could find me a way to move on
But you never let me, never let me go
Oh, it ain't no use
I can't get over you
Wherever we go, we can't run from our ghosts
Oh, it ain't no use
Can't keep runnin' from the truth, no
Wherever we go, we can't run from our ghosts
I could find someone better, yeah
I could find someone worse
But I will never find someone else
I will never find someone else
Oh, it ain't no use
I can't get over you, no
Wherever we go, we can't run from our ghosts
Oh, it ain't no use
Can't keep hidin' from the truth
Wherever we go, we can't run from our ghosts
No, whoa, whoa
No
No, it ain't no use
I could find someone better, oh
I could find someone worse
But I will never find someone else
But I will never find someone else
In the song "Ghosts" by Six60, the singer is haunted by the ghost of a past love. Despite their efforts to move on and let go, the memory of this person continues to linger and affect their life. The chorus emphasizes the inability to escape past mistakes and the consequences that follow. The lyrics "Wherever we go, we can't run from our ghosts" suggests that even if the singer moves on and finds a new love, their past will always follow them and the memories will continue to haunt them.
The second verse of the song reveals that the singer has been digging deeper to uncover the reason why they are unable to move on from their past love. They are trying to find closure to pull down the ghosts and move forward. However, the realization hits that they never saw it coming and are unable to fathom how they ended up becoming strangers. The line "I thought in time I could find me a way to move on, but you never let me, never let me go" reveals that although the singer wants to move on, their past lover is like an anchor that keeps pulling them back.
In conclusion, "Ghosts" is a song about the struggle to let go of someone we once loved. Despite our desire to move on, the past memories continue to linger, and the ghost of the past relationship becomes a haunting presence that follows us wherever we go.
