Sizzla, along with reggae recording artists such as Capleton, Buju Banton, and Anthony B, are credited with leading a movement toward a re-embracement of Rastafarian values in contemporary reggae music by recording material which is concerned primarily with spirituality, social consciousness, explores common themes, such as Babylon's corrupting influence, the disenfranchisement of ghetto youth, oppression of the black nation and Sizzla's abiding faith in Jah and resistance against perceived agents of oppression. Sizzla has over 40 full completed albums sold in record stores to date, the most popular which have been "Black Woman & Child" and "Da Real Thing" on the Digital B label, "Praise Ye Jah" on Xterminator, and "Rise to the Occasion" on Greensleeves.
Recently, however, he has come under fire for the homophobic content of many of his lyrics, and the advocacy of violence against gays.

Sizzla's song "Be I Strong" is a call to remain strong in the face of adversity and against those who seek to do harm. The song starts with a note of defiance, saying that the artist will not be afraid of any heathen, and that no harm shall come to his children. He attributes this protection to the powers of Jah (slang for God) and Selassie (referring to Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia, who is seen as a messiah figure in the Rastafari movement). The chorus reinforces this message of strength in the face of opposition, and the verses discuss the challenges faced by those in the ghetto, including poverty and oppression.

They don't care if they kill our youth, and they keep spreading lies that we loot. When they come to my village, they know that they are in trouble. We come together to defend ourselves against them. They try to make us give up behind bars. They aim to manipulate us mentally, so that we give in. Many people may bow and scoop, but I will burn them for their dishonesty.
