High Hopes
Skáld Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young
In a world of magnets and miracles
Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary

The ringing of the division bell had begun

Along the Long Road and on down the Causeway
Do they still meet there by the Cut

There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps
Running before time took our dreams away
Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground
To a life consumed by slow decay

The grass was greener
The light was brighter
With friends surrounded
The night of wonder

Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us

To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side
Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again
Dragged by the force of some inner tide

At a higher altitude with flag unfurled
We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world
Encumbered forever by desire and ambition
There′s a hunger still unsatisfied
Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon
Though down this road we've been so many times

The grass was greener
The light was brighter
The taste was sweeter
The nights of wonder
With friends surrounded

The dawn mist glowing
The water flowing
The endless river

Forever and ever

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Skáld's song High Hopes are a reflection on the passage of time and the bittersweet nature of nostalgia. The first verse speaks to the boundless nature of youth, where the mind can wander without limits and the future is full of infinite possibilities. However, this idealistic viewpoint is interrupted by the ringing of the division bell, signaling some shift in the natural order of things.

The second verse continues to explore the theme of time and how it affects our memories. The singer wonders if the people they used to know are still meeting in the same old places, and muses on the transience of life. The third verse speaks to the regret that comes with age, and the realization that many of our dreams and aspirations may not have come to fruition. The imagery of the grass being greener and the light being brighter in the past only emphasizes this sense of loss.

Despite this wistful tone, the song ends on a note of hope, with the idea that the journey is ongoing and there is still potential for wonder in the present. The closing lines, with their repetition of "forever and ever," suggest that the human spirit is resilient and eternal, even in the face of the relentless march of time.

Absolutely referencing the globalists and their moderate rebel pawns in the U.S. right now. Burn them with the gasoline they came to try to torch us with.
