Millennium
Skyscraper Lyrics

Dies Irae, Dies Ila

Best regards
Crown of broken shards
Digging sores in my mind
Cruel and so kind
Come and face our demanded fate
Our delight and sorrow
Truly borrowed

Can you see the morning,
See the warning,
See the hope?
Can you see now
What was foretold?

Run! run for the day - Dies Irae, Dies Ila
Run for the light - Dies Irae, Dies Ila
Millennium

Ash and haze
Come and guide my way
Now the road is leading
Deep within me
Time has come
And the doom has sprung
Come and claim our freedom
Armageddon

Can you see the morning,
See the warning,
See the hope?
Can you see now
What was foretold?

Run! run for the day - Dies Irae, Dies Ila
Run for the light - Dies Irae, Dies Ila
Millennium

Can you see the morning,
See the warning,
See the hope?
Can you see now
What was foretold?

Run! run for the day - Dies Irae, Dies Ila
Run for the light - Dies Irae, Dies Ila
Millennium

Run! run for the day - Dies Irae, Dies Ila
Run for the light - Dies Irae, Dies Ila
Millennium

Run! run for the day - Dies Irae, Dies Ila

Run for the light - Dies Irae, Dies Ila
Millennium

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Skyscraper's song Millennium seem to be about the end of the world or a major event leading to a new era. The phrase "Dies Irae, Dies Ila" is Latin for "Day of Wrath, Day of Judgment." The lyrics talk about digging sores in the mind and facing a demanded fate, indicating a sense of distress and uncertainty. The Crown of broken shards could be a metaphor for a shattered world. The lyrics also mention coming and claiming freedom, possibly indicating the start of a new era. The repeated phrase "Can you see the morning, see the warning, see the hope?" highlights the urgency of the situation and the possibility for a fresh start.

The chorus repeatedly urges the listener to "run for the day" and "run for the light," emphasizing the importance of taking action and finding a way through the impending chaos. The use of "Ash and haze" and "time has come, and the doom has sprung" alludes to destruction and the end of something. However, with mention of hope and freedom, there is also a sense of renewal and rebirth.

Overall, the lyrics to Millennium are a commentary on the tumultuous events that lead to the end of an era, but also a call to take action and prepare for the future.

In the wake of the Surfside tragedy this video takes on new importance and URGENCY!

How was the developer allowed to build the tallest residential tower west of the Mississippi out of HEAVY concrete on friction piles (only good for short buildings) "anchored" in sand in a seismic area?

How successful will the remedial work to drive point pilings down to bedrock be? And until such time that the tower is anchored to bedrock what is the risk the tower could collapse at any time? A small earthquake or high winds what will it take?

The figures quoted for subsidence are SHOCKING! The tower sunk 10 inches in one year (compare this to 4 inches of subsidence of the Champlain Surfside tower over 40 years!) and this tower is 7 inches out-of-plumb? What the hell?

This video answers a question I had about the Champlain tower. I wondered if it had been built on point pilings down to bedrock or on friction pilings "anchored" in soluble limestone. The fact that in the new millennium a 80 story building called "The Millennium Tower" was allowed to be built on friction pilings "anchored" in sand in a seismic area answered my question.

"there's a list of millionaires - and few (if any) of them got that way without some kind of bribes or political connections."

The typical 'millionaire' in the US is a middle aged married couple who work at professional level jobs or are self employed. They also live in modest homes and drive ordinary cars that are over 5 years old. Remember that wealth is income minus spending. A married couple who each earn over $100K a year but live a modest lifestyle accumulates wealth pretty fast. And this is despite being in the group who pays over 86% of the federal income collected each year.

The idea that those people had political connections is rather absurd. And the Democrats are pretty obvious about their corruption. Obama increased his net worth from $2 million to $20 million while in office. Despite having an official income of roughly $300,00/year.

The Clintons went from "flat broke" in 2000 to a net worth of over $100 million in 2012. Democrats Durbin, Feinstein, Pelosi, and Boxer were all war profiteers who earmarked contracts to family owned businesses. (And these are just the ones we know about.) And with the exception of Durbin they never even touched what they were selling to the govrenment they bought the stuff for the manufacturer added a substantial markup and then sold it to the govrenment. The products were sent directly from the factory to the military logistics facilities. Durbin took this even further by buying fasteners from counterfeiters, making forged certificates of compliance (which certify that the fastener was made from the proper materials and passed inspections). The Army discovered this when they investigated the cause of a fatal helicopter crash. It was one of the counterfeit fasteners sold by Durbin. Durbin's son did wind up going to prison for this be Senator Durban himself was untouchable.

And Biden's corruption is legendary. He made hundreds of millions of dollars by selling access to senior govrenment officials. In return for access to President Obama - Biden's son was given a $50,000/month no-show job to an oil company in The Ukraine. And when that company came under investigation for corrupt practices on that countries law enforcement officials - Biden had shipments of military equipment embargoed until that investigation was called off.

A very tall, heavy skyscraper built on short friction piles in soft wet clay and sand, in an earthquake zone, what could possibly go wrong?

Lmao, I just envisioned you at a dinner party on the 58th floor’s $13M penthouse. Everyone pauses to propose a toast to the smug new owner’s real estate buying prowess with your champagne glasses held high, ..as you slowly roll backwards away from the table.

That absolutely needs to become a scene in the new Frasier reboot in an episode where Niles buys an apartment in the Millennium Tower.
