Crazy Life
Slash Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I was two years lost, so don't recall
Never did see the light
And if up to you
You know it's true
You probably wouldn't be alive

Had the Devil on our shoulder
With a death wish on our mind
Well the hounds of Hell
They knew us well
They were never too far behind

We were singing

Someday, we'll look back if we get out alive
It's a crazy life
Someday, we'll get out of this crazy life

You had long black hair
The Devils stare
Oh, you were a mystery
Always come around
To bring me down
Do a little bit for free

You couldn't get your shit together
Couldn't bring yourself to right
'Cause it's hard to tell
When you're so unwell
If you're in Hell or paradise

We were singing

Someday, we'll look back if we get out alive
It's a crazy life
Someday, we'll get out of this crazy life

Sometimes it's hard to see it
When you're sucked down and reeling
So hard to pull back in from the tide
It's a crazy life

I was two years lost, so don't recall
Never did see the light
And if up to you
You know it's true
You probably wouldn't be alive

We were singing

Someday, we'll look back if we get out alive
It's a crazy life

Someday, we'll get out of this crazy life
We'll get out alive

Overall Meaning

The lyrics in Slash feat. Myles Kennedy's song Crazy Life, conveys a story of two people who lived a reckless and bewildered life filled with drug abuse, gambling, and other ill habits. The first verse talks about how the singer and the person he's referring to both lost track of time and doesn't remember much of their previous life. They never saw light, and if it weren't for the other person, who knows they mightn't even be alive. The second verse talks about how they both had the devil on their shoulder and a death wish on their mind. Hellhound follows them everywhere they go. The chorus talks about how someday, both of them will look back and realize they made it out alive. Their life was crazy, but someday they'll get out.

Moreover, the singer in the song talks about the girl he was with, and how she was a mystery to him. She had a crooked and seductive smile that could trap anyone in her snare. She'd often come around and pull him down with her. Her life was chaotic because she couldn't get her life together- it's hard to distinguish between Hell and paradise when you're unwell. The last lines of the song repeat the chorus, thus signifying that they eventually got out of the craziness alive.
