One More Day Won’t Hurt
Slaves Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

One more day won't hurt
Fast-forward three years on
Now the whites in your eyes aren't looking
So bright and all of your friends are gone
Glass on the side half-empty
Better go buy one more
Counting the change in a yellowing hand
And dropping it all over the floor

Sitting on the same old barstool, sipping on the same old beer
Talking to the new bartender, pondering the same idea
Sitting on the same old barstool, sipping on the same old beer
Talking to the new bartender
I'm telling him, "Everyone knows me 'round here"
Shut up!

I'll tell you when I've had enough
Look at me, I'm so big and tough
I'll tell you when I've had enough
Yeah, I'll tell you

One more day won't hurt
Now three more years have gone
And you're tired and burnt out, trying to work out
Where did it all go wrong?
Wrapper on the side half-empty
Better try and take one more
Begging him, "Please, I'm good for the cash
I get paid next week"
Yeah, sure

Walking around all riled up, looking for some eye contact
Beered up, geared up, saying, "Who wants it?"
Banging your chest and that
Walking around all riled up, looking for some eye contact
Beered up, geared up, saying, "Who wants it?"
Banging your chest and that
Shut it

I'll tell you when I've had enough
Look at me, I'm so big and tough
I'll tell you when I've had enough
Look at me

Truth is, I don't even know him
Wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him
Phone in one hand, ciggy in the other
Winking at me and calling me his brother
Cocaine is a hell of a drug when it's
Running through the veins of a small town thug
Cocaine is a hell of a drug when it's
Running through the veins of a small town thug

Truth is, I don't even know him
Wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him
Phone in one hand, ciggy in the other
Winking at me, calling me his brother
Cocaine is a hell of a drug when it's
Running through the veins of a small town thug
Cocaine is a hell of a drug when it's
Running through the veins of a

I'll tell you when I've had enough
Look at me, I'm so big and tough
I'll tell you when I've had enough
Look at me I'm so big and tough
I'll tell you, I'll tell you
I'll tell you when I've had enough
Look at me, look at me

Look at me

Overall Meaning

The song "One More Day Won't Hurt" is a commentary on addiction and how it can take hold of someone's life. The lyrics speak of a person who is stuck in their ways and cannot escape the cycle of their addiction. The mention of counting change in a yellowing hand and dropping it all over the floor suggests that the person is struggling financially because of their addiction. The line "Now the whites in your eyes aren't looking, so bright and all of your friends are gone" suggests that the person's addiction has caused them to lose touch with reality and lose the people close to them. The repetition of "I'll tell you when I've had enough, look at me I'm so big and tough" highlights the person's denial and unwillingness to admit their problem, as they try to convince themselves that they are in control.

The second half of the song introduces the character of a small town thug who is caught up in drugs, specifically cocaine. The line "Cocaine is a hell of a drug when it's running through the veins of a small town thug" suggests that the thug is using drugs as an escape from the monotony of small town life. The singer does not know the thug and doesn't trust him, but the thug calls him his brother in a display of camaraderie born from their shared addiction. The repetition of "Look at me, I'm so big and tough" at the end of the song suggests that the singer has become like the thug, consumed by addiction and unwilling to admit their problem.

Overall, the song is a haunting portrayal of the grip that addiction can have on a person's life, and how it can change them into someone they don't recognize.

"Sitting on the same old barstol, sippin on the same old beer, talkning to the NEW bartender, pondering the same idea" that's a great lyric, even the previous bartender has moved on in life.

@DustfingazBeats

or the place is so degenerate that no bartender can take it enough to stick around

@cantbanme792

@@DustfingazBeats so.. like the old bartender.. moved on?

@DellaStokes

I feel like I’m back in where’s your car Debbie days omg yes. I needed this.

@SANITIZEDINC

Video looks like it was directed in 1994. Every other video looked like this back then. But few songs rocked like this. What a kickass duo. I can't believe how much noise they make. Fuck yes.

@michaelvandiver2678

I wanna Idles/Slaves supergroup.

@thewomanwithnohead

That feeling when a band comes back HEAVIER THAN EVER instead of jumping on the popular trendy "pop" wave among rock/punk/metal bands. 🙏

@yikesman732

Lmao i was so disappointed in the new white reaper album

@Girlsplaybass

The Woman With No Head amen!

@josh3112

Nothing wrong with the pop wave if it’s done right I’ve heard one band pull off trying to blend nasally vocals for melody with chord progressions from hard rock genre. The other slaves band does it well imo lol. This band kicks ass too they’re continuing the punk/rock scene and it‘ s good stuff. The vocalist kills it rhythmically , bass kick parts keeps things going and guitar production is gritty I luv it
