Slipknot is well known for its attention-grabbing image, aggressive style of music, and energetic and chaotic live shows. The band rapidly rose to fame following the release of their eponymous debut album in 1999. The 2001 follow-up album, Iowa, although darker in tone, made the band more popular. After a brief hiatus, Slipknot returned in 2004 with Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses, before going on another hiatus and returning in 2008 with its fourth album, All Hope Is Gone, which debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart. After another long hiatus, Slipknot released its fifth studio album, .5: The Gray Chapter, in 2014. Their sixth studio album, We Are Not Your Kind, was released on August 9, 2019. Their seventh studio album, The End, So Far, was released on September 30, 2022. The band has released two live albums titled 9.0: Live and Day of the Gusano: Live in Mexico, a compilation album titled Antennas to Hell, and five live DVDs. The band has sold 30 million records worldwide.

Slipknot Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Forty years ago, the man proclaimed the age of the gross to be upon us, and even though the man was destroying our heritage and insulting our intelligence
That era has become very real
We labor for pleasure and abhor the guilt of pressure
My generation will go down as the architects of contemporary disgust
Some have fought and died
Others have allowed the strong to be butchered for a price they themselves don't care about and will never understand
I myself am beleaguered by the selfish face of a kind of man that is not mankind
Fundamentalism of opinion
Catastrophic boredom, and a fanatical devotion to that which does not matter.
Where is your glory now, people?
Where are your gods and politicians?
Where is your shame and salvation?
You rage for no reason because you have no reason
What have you ever fought for?
What have you ever bled for?
The face of the earth is scarred with the walking dead
The age of the gross is a living virus
This is the future you have created
This is the world you have set ablaze
All your lies are coming true
All freedom is lost
All hope is gone
"Execute" by Slipknot is a song that captures the current state of society where people have become slaves to pleasure and have abandoned the true purpose of life. The song portrays the loss of values and morals and how people have become distracted and disconnected from the important things in life. The lyrics suggest that society has reached a tipping point where the boundary between pleasure and numbness has been crossed. The lyrics also demonstrate how people fail to take responsibility for their actions and allow the powerful to exploit the weak.
The song also highlights the idea of information warfare. The growth of information technology has led to access to vast amounts of information, but it has also created distrust in the authenticity of the information. The current era is characterized by a fundamentalism of opinion, where people form opinions based on their belief system rather than evidence-based knowledge. The song warns against the dangers of fanaticism and inaction, which can lead to catastrophic boredom and disinterest in the things that matter.
In conclusion, "Execute" is a call to action for people to wake up from their apathy and take responsibility for the world around them. The song asks people to reflect on their values and the legacy they want to leave behind.

As someone who grew up in the rural Midwest.. the sound and the aesthetic of this intro and their album remind me of cornfields and springtime thunderstorms and tornado sirens

Basically the lyrics sums up to 2020 as the shittiest year ever
@benjamingordon7545
You know, I'm from Iowa too, just like Slipknot band members an I don't know who thought up the lyrics to this song. But I don't look at my life the same way as them. Maybe because they're all from Des Moines where it's alot worse off in some areas compared to where I'm from in Iowa. But Iowa can thank the Governor's in the past for it. They're who wasted all the States money on God only knows what...
