Slipknot is well known for its attention-grabbing image, aggressive style of music, and energetic and chaotic live shows. The band rapidly rose to fame following the release of their eponymous debut album in 1999. The 2001 follow-up album, Iowa, although darker in tone, made the band more popular. After a brief hiatus, Slipknot returned in 2004 with Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses, before going on another hiatus and returning in 2008 with its fourth album, All Hope Is Gone, which debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart. After another long hiatus, Slipknot released its fifth studio album, .5: The Gray Chapter, in 2014. Their sixth studio album, We Are Not Your Kind, was released on August 9, 2019. Their seventh studio album, The End, So Far, was released on September 30, 2022. The band has released two live albums titled 9.0: Live and Day of the Gusano: Live in Mexico, a compilation album titled Antennas to Hell, and five live DVDs. The band has sold 30 million records worldwide.

Drop it
Bones in the water and dust in my lungs
Absorbing archaic like a sponge
The ultimate way is the way you control
But can you stay if you detach your soul?
Bury the present and squeeze out the past
Chemical burns and the animalistic
I'm just another headline pseudo-statistic
Can you feel this?
I'm dyin' to feel this
Can you feel this?
Blood on the paper and skin on my teeth
Tryin' to commit to what's beneath
To find the time is to lose the momentum
You learn the lessons and immediately forget them
Automatic and out of my reach
Consult all the waste to find the key
Minimal life and the polysyllabic
I'm just another blank page, push the button, pull the rage
Can you feel this?
I'm dyin' to feel this
Can you feel this?
I am all, but what am I?
Another number that isn't equal to any of you
I control but I comply
Pick me apart, then pick up the pieces
I'm uneven
I am the damaged one
All my life and the damage done
I am the damaged one
All my life and the damage done
I am the damaged one
All my life and the damage done
I am the damaged one
All my life and the damage done
Can you feel this?
I'm dyin' to feel this
Can you feel this?
I'm dyin' to feel this
Can you feel this?
I'm dyin' to feel this
Can you feel this?
I am all but what am I?
Another number that isn't equal to any of you
I control but I comply
Pick me apart, then pick up the pieces
I'm uneven
I am all but what am I?
Another number that isn't equal to any of you
I control but I comply
Pick me apart, then pick up the pieces
I'm uneven
The opening lines set the tone for the rest of the song, “Bones in the water and dust in my lungs, absorbing archaic like a sponge”. These lyrics are describing the feeling of being weighed down by the past, by the things that have already happened and cannot be changed. The reference to bones and dust is also symbolic; bones being what's left of a person after they're gone, and dust being what's left when everything has crumbled away. The singer of this song is grappling with a lot of intense emotions, trying to find a way to cope with them, and to find a way forward. The line, “The ultimate way is the way you control, but you can stay if you detach your soul,” suggests that in order to move forward, sometimes we need to let go of things that we're holding onto too tightly.
The lyrics in the chorus, “Can you feel this? I'm dying to feel this,” are particularly powerful. They express the intense desire to feel alive, to experience something real and intense, even if it means experiencing pain. The following verse describes the struggle to commit to something that may be difficult, and the struggle to hold onto the lessons we've learned. “To find the time is to lose the momentum, you learn the lessons, and immediately forget them.” The singer is struggling to find a way forward that feels authentic, and is wrestling with feelings of inadequacy and uncertainty.
