Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Slipknot's song "515" are quite simple, consisting only of the repetition of the word "Death" seven times. However, this simplicity takes on a more ominous tone when considering the context in which the song was created. "515" is the opening track to Slipknot's second studio album, "Iowa," which was heavily influenced by the band members' personal struggles with depression, addiction, and trauma. It is said that the short track was recorded on the tour bus after the band witnessed the suicide of their friend and bandmate, Paul Gray, whose death would become a major impetus for the themes explored throughout the album.

When I first heard this intro as a child, I was traumatised and frightened!!!

I had nightmares because of this intro!!!!

But now? It's a classic! 😉

It was when I was going through My Bro's CDs in 2003, and I came across Iowa, and I was like... Hmm... I'll give that a listen...

Sticks CD in CD-Player...

and immediately, I just froze with fear when 515 came on due to how loud the volume was, and I was too scared to listen to Slipknot! Lol.

I also remember being too scared to walk upstairs alone when passing by My big Brother's Horror drawings!

But hey, that's what made Me the Metalhead I am today! 😉🤘

So the story is, Sid went to go visit his grandfather and by the time he got there, he realized his grandfather died earlier. He want back to the recording studio and started to let all of his sadness, pain, and rage out and recorded this.
